Vent: Neighborhood kids messed up new sidewalk

It's vandalism and it's illegal.

Hey that's what Marilyn, Jean Harlow + Clark Gable did @The Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Blvd.

They paved the way (no pun there, right?!) for others to immortalize themselves forever.

In my neighborhood, when that happens, they come out and redo the cement. And post a police officer nearby while it cures. Aah, New Jersey.

My sister did this when she was in high school. She wrote in giant letters "Bitch Crew" and she and all her friends signed their names. My mom made her pay to get that sidewalk fixed. She would have been okay if it was something small but "bitch crew?" Low class all the way. My mom loves to bring it up now since my sister is a super snob.

We just had some replaced in our neighborhood and I seriously considering writing something in the wet concrete. I'm 43.

But you didn't, because you know it's wrong.

It is a totally different situation if it's private concrete at your own house. In that case, kids' handprints are cute.

On public property, it is graffiti and vandalism.

The state with no left turns on major roads and you can't pump your own gas.

No, because the window for being able to do this is pretty small. You have to catch it when the concrete is wet, but the crew isn't still there, and there aren't any grownups around. In a new development, it's often the case that no one lives in the neighborhood yet. But if you spend a lot of time on sidewalks in residential areas, in pretty much any city in the country, you will see initials or the like.

Damn it! We just had a bunch of new sidewalk put in right by my house and across the street. I wish I had thought of having my kids put their initials in the sidewalk. I'm kicking myself now because I didn't think of it. Ugh!!

NJ is a joke. At least they were smart enough to wide part of the NJ Turnpike and not allow trucks on the newer lanes.
