"it is just wonderful to be back in Oregon, and over the last 15 months we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in fifty .... seven states? I think one left to go. One left to go. Alaska and Hawaii, I was not allowed to go to even though I really wanted to visit but my staff would not justify it."

He didn’t say, “states and territories.” He said, “states.”

And, how did he respond when questioned about this blunder?

Talking with reporters at a later campaign stop, Senator Obama expressed concern that he'd recently misstated both the number of potential victims of a recent cyclone in Burma and the number of states he'd visited, saying:
"I hope I said 100 thousand people the first time instead of 100 million. I understand I said there were 57 states today. It's a sign that my numeracy is getting a little, uh ..."

And, yes, he was campaigning and misspoke. Same as Trump today about NJ. When corrected by a reporter, he corrected himself.
It is a nonissue.

Yes, it's a non-issue, but it still got a lot of undeserved attention, just like Trump's error is getting undeserved attention, to the detriment of much more important news.

When someone has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, it is inevitable that they induce intense loathing in everyone around. This is one reason I think Trump will lose bigly. So the heart of the this long-running joke is that he conflated "states" with "jurisdictions" while giving a stump speech in somebody's school library? That is disappointing, I thought there had to be more to it.

No, he misspoke. He didn’t even attribute it to conflating the two.

I am far from an Obama fan, and yes, he misspoke here. But, I am pretty tired of evaluating every.single.word that every politician utters.
I am the person that posted this blunder in response to the poster that was up in arms about Trump saying Kaine was from NJ, and not VA.
It was a mistake, pure and simple.
