Desperate for a good book. Seriously.

I know it's not recent, but The Thorn Birds might be a novel you'd enjoy. When it came out, I couldn't put it down!

A lot of these seemed too graphic for me.

Do you know how to read a book review? Go on Amazon and read reviews on the suggested books for books you have already read OR go into a book store and ask someone to help you.

Am I not allowed to ask here? Am I bothering you? I could go on Amazon (and have) or go to a bookstore, but what's wrong with asking for suggestions here...?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, and I enjoy these threads. Over half of DCUM threads are based on seeking others' opinions. Please just ignore the rudeness of the PP.

Carbide Tipped Pens (short stories):

https://www.amazon.com/Carbide-Tipped-Pens-Seventeen-Science/dp/0765334305

It's described as "hard science fiction . . . [T]he literature of change, rigorously examining the impact—both beneficial and dangerous—of science and technology on humanity, the future, and the cosmos."

I think you might like some of Geraldine Brooks's novels. March is her best known book, but I enjoyed Year of Wonders and Caleb's Crossing. They are lighter historical fiction with a good amount of action.

Has anyone recommended Jennifer Weiner's books yet? Love her!

Nonfiction, but I just finished "Troublemaker" by Leah Remini and it was really interesting about her childhood and growing up in Scientology. Crazy stuff.

A classic, but I always recommend "A Confederacy of Dunces" to anyone who hasn't read it.

Anything by Erik Larson, he writes historical fiction and they are super engrossing.
My favorites are:
Thunderstruck
Issac's Storm
In the Garden of Beasts
Dead Wake

Also, I'm trying to read the books on the 100 best books of the 20th century list. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/6
