The second half flips all your preconceptions about the characters. You need to make it to that part. |
Another vote for both of these. The last line of Widow for a Year made me burst into tears. |
I loved this book. |

Op,
Two of my favorite fiction writers are Maeve Binchy and Alexander McCall Smith . Binchy is famous for Light a Penny candle and one of McCall Smith series is Ladies #1 detective agency ( but he has others) I know you said no series but, honestly you can read each book on their own without reading every one so I make an exception for these two authors. |
Came here to reccomend this. Much less fluffy than I thought and so much fun. |

I’ve been eating up Octavia Butler and African/Caribbean lit. In no particular order: Brown girl in the ring - nalo Hopkinson Inheritance trilogy (nk jemison) plus her other two (dream blood Duology + stone sky) Children of blood and bone Binti series (I think that’s nnedi okorafor, who has a bunch) Autonomous-annalee newitz |
| (So Octavia butler and those who count her as an influence) |
