Desperate for a good book. Seriously.

OP, you have a lot of books that my book club has read, so I'll recommend Fates and Furies

+ 1 for the Red Tent - one of my all time favorites.

You probably have access to the NoveList online database through your local public library. You can get recommendations based on books you have read and loved.

Also ignore the jerk face from page 1. I love book threads, and wouldn't discourage anyone from looking for their next read.

If OP reallly wants books with no violence at all, she probably should just stick with fluflfy books like Shopaholic.

I didn't say no violence at all. I said no violence to children.

Such as a nonfiction book about children in African who become soldiers. That's a no go for me.

I was the PP who recommended the Shopaholic books--The Poisonwood Bible is one of my favorites but I figured OP wouldn't like the violence in it. Hence, Shopaholic. What about the Kitchen God's Wife?

OP, have you tried the works of Anne Tyler? That might be just right. Some of Stewart O'Nan's books might work for you, too.

Memories of a Geisha
The Poisonwood Bible

All great ones from 15+ years ago .

I would suggest OP look into books that were made into major movies starring familiar actors. These are the types of books OP will enjoy.

Just go on Amazon and buy whatever is the top seller.

You are so helpful! Thanks! Hope we run into each other some day! You seem so friendly.

Okay, and you seem needy and resourcefulness...

Man who got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? Trying to make everyone else be as miserable as you? Troll.

Jeez, some of you are nasty.

OP, I sometimes really enjoy YA fiction - Tell the Wolves I'm Home was an excellent coming of age story. Also Code Name Verity was wonderful, though there was some violence. John Greene books.

I recently read a book called "We never asked for wings". It's not a mystery but there is no violence. It is different from what I usually read and I really, really enjoyed it.
