DCUM DWs -- what is your BMI?

Anonymous
I'm 40, 2 kids, BMI is 18.6.

I agree bodies change and I expect mine will. However healthy eating has become increasingly important to me as I age. I need to eat healthy to keep my energy up. I also can't really drink anymore which helps. I just can't metabolize alcohol for shit anymore so I don't bother drinking and I see a lot of woman slurping down the wine - those calories add up. I used to be a gym freak before kids but now I work out moderately at home. I am pretty consistent though and don't skip many workouts but they are shorter and not as intense as when I was younger. Point is to just stay active.

Congrats to the woman who lost a ton of weight up thread. Inspiring.

LOL I don't know and don't care and neither does DH. We are both healthy and active and eat intuitively, no need for a scale.

18.8, it seems, but I don't think BMI calculators are very useful. I'm carrying an extra 3-5 lbs because I'm mother to 2 very young kids and insanely stressed and exhausted.

Same.

1. Yes guys are visual creatures

2. Mature guys know that you gain weight as you age and that after pregnancy your body changes

3. Immature guys have affairs or divorce for a trophy wife

4. If you have a #3 he wasn't worth being with in the first place

I don't think BMI is a very useful tool for me because when I am in my best shape and look best naked is when my BMI is the highest. My BMI is 20 right now and I am very toned. When it was at the higher end of 18's I was thin but I was gross and flabby. Yuck.

I don't think this is a very useful tool. My BMI is 23, and I wear a size 2. I am extremely well-toned. I look perfect 3 pounds lighter. I would probably still look good 10 pounds lighter, but to be 18, I would have to lose 30 pounds, which would be unimaginably unhealthy.

19. No one ever says I look "too" thin, but maybe b/c I am tall (5'8, 125lb).

38.5

And proud that with the 50 pounds I lost in the last 2 years it is under 40

it was not easy to lose the 50 pounds and what amazes me is that almost no one (work or friends) commented on it

1 family member who lost weight like me and was my inspiration has been very supportive

but 1 friend I confided the total pounds lost to didn't seem to believe me

Well 23 is in the normal range and 18 is below it, so I'm not sure why you think that shows BMI isn't useful?

I'm sure people noticed. Lots of people don't comment on others' weight as a rule (me included) because it is such a touchy subject and it's easy to inadvertently hurt someone's feelings (e.g. "you look great" taken as "you looked bad before"). But that is an amazing accomplishment! Great work.

DH loves me at this weight. I like being five pounds lighter, but those five pounds come from my already-less-than-ample boobs (I am barely a c cup at this weight).

DH is about 29. He is also very muscular, but is 46 and likes beer. He wants to lose 15 pounds. I find him irresistible at any weight. He knows he is a lucky man. I know I am a lucky woman.

Same boat, except we are a little older. I'm 24 BMI now, muscular, miss being 7 pounds lighter (thanks, turning 40). Husband prefers the 7 pounds of butt and boobs.

Wow!! That's some major progress there!! Good for you, I'm seriously impressed.

Thank you. It sucks that I even let it get to a place where that kind of progress is possible, but that's my reality -- and I know there's someone else reading who is there too and needs encouragement. It's painful to be there, and it's also in some ways painful to have success losing weight, because you have so many regrets and beat yourself up about it and worry about keeping it off.

The biggest difference maker for me this time has been actually being kind to myself. I thought I could bully myself into losing weight, I just needed to work harder, and the more shame I heaped upon myself the more I'd want to work harder. Not really. That's probably one of the reasons I made myself post... avoiding shame and hating myself has been key to staying on track. It has really changed my perspective about how motivation works.

Congrats! I'm proud of you and I don't even know you It's a lot of hard work and you should be celebrating your accomplishments. And don't beat yourself up if you have some slip ups along the way. It's hard to do what you're doing. Great job! You've come a long way. I hope your DH is excited about your healthy changes too.

another congrats. that sounds hard, and you should be proud.
