Plus 1,000. This is a great location. |
That's how they are treating it, it's fundamentally the same- they own (or long term lease) the property because they have enough financial backing to take on the financial risk, and then lease it to the school at affordable rates based on their enrollment. At least that's how I assume it is being structured, maybe they came up with a different structure for this one- like Building Hope owning the property for 5 years and then the schools having a purchase option. |
Someone upthread said Lee has a 25 year lease, with a right to renew. That seems quite different to me than Building Hope giving people a temporary space for a few years til they can buy their own. Maybe it doesn't matter - and is a distinction without a difference. |
| Man. I wish I had put Lee higher on my list. The location uncertainty was the only concern for me (and it was a big one). I guess there's no way to edit a MySchoolDC list after the deadline? |
Nope. |
Good points. Don't know anything about the specifics of the deal, a 25 year lease by Lee with guarantees by Building Hope may be it. Or a 25 year lease by Building Hope with a sublease by Lee. Bit more information here. The developer may be giving the schools a good deal in order to garner support for the larger redevelopment plan. http://www.bizjournals.com/washington/breaking_ground/2016/03/brookland-college-campus-finds-a-buyer-with-a.html?ana=twt |

So Elementry kids sharing space with high school kids?
And wasn't leadership academy aimed at problem kids? |
Yes. Like at Cap City. Where LAMB will eventually be next to DCI. And Landon. And Maret. And Potomac School (And no, not problem kids) |
I share these concerns. That's precisely why I avoided the Educational Campus models. I don't feel comfortable with my PKer with older kids even if they are separated. Wonder how that layout will be to ensure that there is no crossover between the two schools. |
The person who mentioned a 25 year lease was speculating. |
They won't be sharing space. Completely separate. |
That's completely different. The educational campus is a single entity. These are not. |
| Lee parents, what is going on with Lee's infant and toddler program? When will it open? Will it be open to all? |
|
Have you ever been to Lee/ITS? The schools have completely separate entrances, keyfob/locked doors between each school (and that may be because Lee was only there two years. Could have been separate.
We share a nurse that you have to be fobbed with an administrative staff if you are a Lee family (at least that's what I've seen). We see Lee families while our kids are playing on the playground after pickup, wave during drop off. Sometime honk our horns when they park in the crosswalk. I think they may have used our cafeteria/multipurpose for some schoolwide events, but I don't know that for sure. Lee families are nice, but there's little to no crossover. I wish them well. Do ITS parents know if we are still going to build out the basement for incubating future charters? |
How seperate? Seperate buildings? No 17 year olds hanging out after school on campus? Can you explain more? |
