It's much more informative than the Post's article.

So he was holding it under his desk in class? That's even more serious.

was it loaded? did the kid have bullets to put in it? No one seems very interested in if the weapon was actually lethal.

It's not that we are not interested - we are. It's just that that information is not available publicly at this time and nobody on DCUM knows the answer - so we are not mindlessly speculating about it.

That's good reporting there. I guess the new principal isn't stifling the student newspaper as many in the long DCUM thread feared.

It seems that the student was holding the gun under a desk?!!

BTW, good reporting -- and well written.

Nothing personal. but why are some DCPS parents conditioned to be so passive?

You must have missed the conclusion to that thread. The Principal agreed to remove herself from the process.

What is your proposal? That we demand this information at gunpoint?

No one suggested mindlessly speculating (except you) just asking the questions. A simple "official info not yet available" would have been sufficient, from someone official.

A gun is intimidating. A loaded gun is dangerous.

This was the correct decision. And Wilson students usually publish a first rate high school newspaper.

Are people asking questions about school.climate in Wilson, character education and expectations for behavior in and out of school? I dont think anyone wants just punishment. However, if you dont get in before things reach this point sometimes thats what's left - though I agree we don't know enough yet to even go there.
It would be great to look at why there would be two weapons incidents in a week, and how to be proactive going forward. Who is raising that cry?

DCPS will share information as necessary and appropriate at the proper time.

Apparently he wanted to get another boy in trouble by putting the gun in the other person's backpack and then report it.
He also said he used a different door to get in and did not go through the metal detectors.

He wanted to plant the gun on another kid. He bragged about it to a classmate who did not think he was serious.
