Vineyard Vines - Wow, haven't seen such a white catalog in years

My mom is such a WASP. Rene Lacoste personally designed all the sports outfits for her country club

There's been a store in Georgetown for at least 5 years and one in Tysons for several years as well.

I also noticed that the only non-white person in their catalogs was the guy rowing their boat for them. Gross.

It's all horrible representation on the brands part. Who said Africans aren't preppy? Who Asians are preppy? Who said middle eastern a aren't preppy? It's the same crap that Abercrombie had a problem with and look at their brand now, it's completely flopping. America as a whole is all races, all ethnicity, and many representations of religion. It's time for brands, and people as a whole recognize that we are all not white and do not wish to be white.

Preppy doesn't mean you can't have full representation of all ethnicities.

One prime example of a fair representation in their stores and catalogs is JCrew.

That will make their brand VERY fashionable for a few years, but turn off their core market. Then the fashion will change and they will be a worn out brand who is no longer fashionable and whose core market gave up on them.

+1 see Micheal Kors, Von Dutch, Louis Vuitton

Cool story, bro.

I havent experienced anything like that since the 70s. I dont get the idea that white culture must be multiracial while at the same time minority culture cannot be corrupted with whiteness. There is only colorblind in utopia, anyone can be as they wish. Why did the hungarian woman get strung up by the press for having show how beautiful she would look as a woman of color, but it is ok for a woman of color to go straight haired and blonde and so forth? Colorblind allows both, not just one. And so forth and so on. Sorry people, there can be only colorblind in the end. Until that time, we are waiting for people of all colors to get over it.

Nope. We are all different colors. And most of the time the people "striving for a colorblind society" are really striving for one where the white/WASP-y culture and norms becomes the dominant/only culture. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

I agree with this. it is not a great brand but it is trendy right now. I do not see this brand lasting that long.

This.
LV bags became a big thing with minorities and soon you didn't see any white women carrying them, so other brands are learning not to seek out minorities for fear of losing their "elite whites."

Martha's Vineyard has a very big (and affluent) black population. They should have blacks in their ads.

P P here, and no I am not struggling for a white society. I was very clear about that. I am not wasp. My husband is not white. My child is not white. And because of your racism, you cannot hear what I am plainly saying. Don't shoot yourself in the foot like that and blame someone else for pulling the trigger.

I've seen that catalog. There's a black dude in it anyway. This whole thread is off base.

While it's a different kind of clothing, the "Simply Southern" brand also seems "white."
