NP - I do. I'm a white woman. And it affects where I shop. VV wouldn't be getting a purchase from me.

Did you shop at VV previously? Doubt it. I don't think they care.

I've been n the store in looked online. My family has a place on the cape and my best friend lives on Nantucket. I'm surrounded by this stuff all the time. That and j mc

x2. Wont do anything to affect their firm hold on the country club crowd business.

No one at Chevy Chase is gonna stop buying VV because of your dumb little outrage over a damn catalog

I never claimed that my intent was to change the purchases of CC. I said it affected MY purchases

It's not stupid. When you are a minority, you notice these things. It's 2015.

Don't get out much do you? Have you been to Martha's Vineyard? VERY rich AA history. Lots of AAs wear the brand. I have friend who designed ties for them. She is AA and has a house on the Vineyard.

You've walked into a store and "looked online."

Great.

I'm sure they'll be downright devastated to lose the $0 dollars of income that you were spending on them.

You probably ended up COSTING them money since you took up time and anergy from their shop workers...

That will make their brand VERY fashionable for a few years, but turn off their core market. Then the fashion will change and they will be a worn out brand who is no longer fashionable and whose core market gave up on them.

Sad but true. They do have to worry about protecting their brand...

Exactly. Remember Nautica, Timberland, and Tommy Hilfiger?

Lacoste

Ralph Lauren, Polo, Michael Kors

I have an even better reason not to buy their stuff: it fades and pills really quickly. I tried VV for the first time a couple of Christmases ago bc DH needed new polos, and VV had some great-looking ones with the slim fit he needs. A few washes later and they were no longer wearable for work. Pills, fading, curling collars, all of it. He doesn't know one brand from another, but he was like, what is up with these shirts, and why are they ruined before summer's even started?

I think the obnoxious pastels appeal to white who like to think they are old money. Would it really appeal to black or Latino people? Could those models wear it convincingly? That said I could see someone like Kanye West wear it ironically and make it more popular with a more diverse group of people.

I'm white so can't really be sure, but I guess if you are not white you notice when you flip through a catalog and don't see any people who look like you.

Ralph Lauren seems to implicitly put out a a TJ Maxx only brand.

Chances are that no one in this area sees people in catalogs who look like they do because ... the people in the catalogs are, how do you say, attractive?

The irony is that these AA families are far more " old money" than VV, which was started ten years ago by a couple of frat boys who didn't have anything else to do once they graduated from college. They can try to "protect their brand", but it isn't as if they are Barbour or Murray's Tog Shop. There are no pictures of Jack Kennedy wearing their shirts in his youth, and people named Harriman did not tote their garments off go Deerfield.
