I agree.

Or be issued a weapon when they check in on post. Or have the officers and NCOs carry when on duty. Or certain commanders and first shirts carry.

They have exhorted their followers ro kill members of the military and their families. They have published their addresses. These people do not all live 'on post'. Some.live next door to you in DC. Think about it. I believe in sensible gun laws. I also believe that under threat, people have the right to prepare to defend themselves.

And yes, the above should also be done. Its unbelievable that so many of these attacks (Nidal) have occurred around people adept to defend themselves who were not allowed to carry their weapon at time of attack. This needs to immediately stop. And Dc needs to issue conceal weapon permits to the military personnel that live here that request them.

My son is in the military. He is currently living on a military installation. He is not allowed to have his firearm on post in his living quarters (a private room). He has to keep it off post at a friend’s home. Ridiculous.
He goes to the shooting range regularly as part of his job. He has a concealed carry permit. He is an excellent marksman and a damned good soldier.
The military has to rethink this policy.

Are you talking about a firearm that he owns or a military-issued weapon?

You do realize this is in effect to protect service members from themselves, right? Suidcide is rampant in the armed forces.

Both. The one he owns is kept off post.

It has not always been that way; it needs to be re-thought. Within the Green Zone, they did not have such ridiculous rules - and it saved a lot of lives on the occasions when insurgents or turncoats made it inside and started shooting.

Those soldiers at Fort Hood and in Chattanooga never stood a chance.

I am talking about personal, to protect self, family from this overt threat that could come from anywhere at anytime..with the constant data breaches and the internet - it is way too easy to find anyone, anywhere. We need to change concealed weapon law for military, and yes - rethink being armed while on duty so folks can protect not only themselves but others.

A 5th victim has died as a result of this attack.

RANDALL SMITH, a 24-year-old US Navy Petty Officer, succumbed early Saturday to injuries suffered in Thursday's shooting at the Navy Operational Support Center in Chattanooga by Mohammad Abdulazeez, raising the death toll to 5.

I pray for the families of the fallen. So very, very sad.

Horrible.

This was Chattanooga's Fort Hood massacre.

Why hasn't anything been done to prevent these types of attacks??

Has a credible motive been established yet? Was this guy a gun nut?

These recruiting centers are storefronts. They are not on base. The personnel.are unarmed..additionally, service members home.addresses are being published online. Not to mention the massive background check security breach. It is terrifying..please call you council member, Eleanor Holmes Norton and the white house to allow security for service members.inside of America. Basically the right to carry weapons on and off duty to protect self and family. Please. If you care, if this upsets you, your neighbors are in harms way.

These recruiting centers are in strip malls. Code pink used to throw flour on Marines going in and out to make their point. Some.of these are 18 year old service members, our sons and daughters. I support sensible gun control, but these rules for servicemembers as is DC refusing to acknowledge the states threat that should allow servicemembes to received conceal carry permits. Please speak up.

Sorry - I meant to say these rules are ludicrous. The question is, do we trust and support our military - or not? The country seems to want it both ways. Its terrible. And to mitigate suicide risk, more attention to ptsd, reforming VA care and counseling! Taking away weapon if someone has mental health concerns - of course! Taking away weapons from everybody is such a surface response, that we've seen created horrible harm to innocents. Its ridiculous.
