I think the response needs to be proportionate with how big a problem it is. A delicate balance.

Sounds like the OP's son meets your pothead definition. Frequent use, bad attitude, etc.

I hate the stuff but it's probably just fine for people over 21. I have zero tolerance for teen use.

This. I'd even say fine for over 25. There's clear evidence pot affects brain development, and teen brains don't finish developing until some time in the early 20s.

It's not for us to defend, that burden is on prohibitionists like yourself.

Please, list off these "known carcinogens" in marijuana. We'll be waiting.

NP here. And a smoker.

Are you really trying to claim that inhaling smoke is fine???

Cannabis smoke contains many of the same cancer causing substances (carcinogens) as tobacco - at least 50 of them. http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cancers-in-general/cancer-questions/does-smoking-cannabis-cause-cancer

News flash, grandma: Usage via combustion is on the decline. Vaporization, as like vaping nicotine, is very popular in CA, CO, etc. As technology improves, costs decline and access improves, fewer people will use combustion for usage. Bad news for you, what will you have to cry about then?

That's not "pothead definition." That's the definition of a teenager, duh, especially one getting ridden by his parents over perceived "drug" usage.

The stupidity flowing in this thread is amazing.

Nobody knows how safe vaping is or isn't quite yet. There are very few studies so far. And Most studies have been done by vaporizer manufacturers whose bottom line is at stake. Cheap vaporizers have plastic inside so you are inhaling plastic toxins along with the rest. It may be safer. It may not. There's not enough evidence yet either way. So vape away if you want. Just don't assume it's perfectly benign and risk-free.

Maybe your definition of a regular teenager is being an asshole to your family. It's not mine. Raise your standards a bit.

My brother is a hugely successful techie who moved to Boulder and smokes pot daily. He recently lamented that he can't have any "bud" before he takes his new Piper out, so now he has to decide if he wants to vape or go flying in his plane on the weekends. His wife makes "special" brownies.

My brother was a pothead in high school and college, and he makes more money now than most people I know. I used to tell him he would live in our parents' basement forever, but clearly I was wrong.

The PP was right about "vaping", which is what they do to avoid smoke inhalation issues.

Not only that, but you can consume anywhere outside.

NEWS FLASH: Many to most teenagers are assholes to family members. It's part of growing up.

Now continue on your ceremonious high horse.

He's died at age 56 from pancreatic cancer. Smoking cigarettes doubles your risk for pancreatic cancer. As more people smoke pot, there is more research being done on whether smoking pot, which has many of the same carcinogens in it, may have a causal effect on cancer as well.

The research being done now actually contradicts everything you are saying, there is a reason it is being used medicinally folks
