this is not about columbine shootings By reason of insanity does not mean that the person gets off. Maybe they should change the wording to remove the 'not guilty' A modern day civilized justice system is supposed to take into account mental health. I think he is cookoo. Breivik not so much, this one, yes. |
| I think Columbine was a rage mixed in with misfits, ostracized, self-centered, attention seeking, teenage drama perfect storm. |
OK, so call it guilty but insane. Same idea. He is absolutely guilty. But he also likely needs to be locked in an institution. And no one said this was about Columbine. Someone asked about whether or not people had pity for them or thought them insane. It was another similar mass killing situation. That's all. Not trying to skew or derail this discussion. |
| The pictures on the news looks like he's faking being out of it. |
Agreed. This guy is smart and is working the system. Kill him already and end this game he is playing. I honestly don't care if he really is mentally ill. If you are violent to the point where you are capable of committing this type of violence, you are of no benefit to society. |
Disagree completely. |
so, wait - we can't speculate about him (most likely) being insane, but you are allowed to make a snap judgement about him faking it and playing a system? Pot, it's kettle. You're black. |
Oops, sorry - judgment. I didn't mean to break the laws of grammar. I wish this site had spell check, though. That one is for some reason very hard to remember. |
Don't you get the red squiggly underline when you misspell a word? I usually do. |
....not really. This is what I thought, too . People who have a psychotic break are usually not able to function on that high of a level anymore once that happens. The planning, organization, the elaborate rigging of his apartment, but especially the keeping if the facade that he did. I read an interview with a guy who had drinks with this mass murderer ("troubled young man" is the wrong phrase in the light of what this killer did IMO) just a few days prior, and found nothing odd. They talked about football. Someone with a fresh psychotic break dies not know he has one and will say and do odd things. It would be impossible not to notice in a longer conversation/interaction. He *could* be playing this, pretending. He was supposedly very smart -and his field of study was mental disease. It is raising a lot of questions. In the court appearance he just looks ... Drugged more than anything. I don't know. It is bizarre. What a horrible crime. |
If you will read, you will see that I said that I don't care if he is mentally ill. Crazy or not, kill him already. His sort of violent behavior contributes nothing to society. That POS killed 12 people, including a 6 y/o. I don't give a shit what his problem is, if he even has one. |
This +1000. I am ashamed of the impulse I would have if I were there would be to just beat him senseeless. I had the same implies about Andrew Cunanan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Cunanan a purely evil prick who killed himself and cheated the justice system. Holmes is spoiled garbage. His "crazy" affect looks completely fake. |
Nope, I don't. Not sure why not. |
| What about if he was actually not planning to shoot at the movies but at his school? can this be possible? He was planning this for a while, what part in the movie did he decide to go and get the arms (he certainly had to dress pretty quickly). I think that when a mentally ill person is isolated it contributes to his/hers delusions. the longer the isolation the worst. |

>>So of course the court needs to be fair about Holmes and may find him insane. But when I see this guy, I also think that he was a geeky science student with potential, just like me and dozens of people I went to school with. And I wonder what else besides a haywire gene or a bad life event might have led him to this point.<<
Maybe that is all he needed to reach this point. I have read some comments that take the blame off his parents and that is reasonable but, didn't they talk to him on a regular basis? visited them? when was the last time his parents see him? I am a mother and it really blows my mind that a parent can't have a meaningful conversation with her kid. If the conversation doesn't flow as usual it would be a red flag. now, i am not blaming his parents, it is just an observation. |
