15:10 gets it? Her HHI is 200 fucking thousand dollars and she is going on and on about how her priorities are different? Give me a break. You are clueless and your rambling makes no sense. You sound really insecure and bitter too. |
You are wrong. Most lawyers, lobbyists, commercial real estate folk, and politicos make SIGNIFICANTLY more than $120-$135K/year. In fact, I know very, very few people in Washington who make that little. I/We generally feel poor in our Washington circles as we make "only" around $400-$450K/year, both working full time. Most of the families I know, the wife SAH and their HHI is over $500K if not well into the millions. Clearly, it is who you know/where you live, etc... but stating that its "hard" to get a job making more than $135K just incorrect. |
how out of touch are you? "most", "most"??? look at the statistics. VERY few people make that kind of money. Obviously the PP was incorrect in that DC has very high incomes compared to the country as a whole, but you are incorrect if you think that $500K is the norm. |
I am SO glad that I am not friends with you and your "circle". UGH--I wonder if your friends are as clueless as you are. Here's a royal news flash for you---not everyone is a lawyer, lobbyist, commercial real estate folk or politico. There are lots of us who do other things and lots of us who make less than $120K a year. We just don't associate with people like you because we think you are a pompous ass! |
plus MOST lawyers and commercial real estate folks or politicos make a helluva lot less than $500K+. |
| Law degree, income $201,000. |
No, certainly not the norm, but stating that it is "hard" to find a job making more than that in Washington is just wrong. There is a large group of folks in Washington who make significantly more than that. I am not a "pompous ass." I never said I think it is "normal" to make more than that. The national average is far, far below PP's number. However, to state unequivocally that it is hard to find higher paying jobs in Washington is just wrong. |

Aah, class wars breakin' out.
Never change, DCUM.

What's the extra $1k for? |
I was thinking the SAME thing! must put the PP over the edge a bit in terms of "levels" |
I am a lobbyist (non-lawyer) who would like to increase my salary. Where do the lobbyists that you know who make a lot work? Do they work for lobbying firms, companies (corporate), law firms? I'm trying to target my search. Not being a lawyer may hinder me somewhat, but any suggestions would be appreciated. |

Me: BA, state school, MA, mid level school - $113,000
DH: BA, state school - $140,000 |
I woudl say the things most of them have in common is they spent several years on the Hill working for fairly powerful Senators and Cogressmen, or on powerful conmmittees. Many do have law degrees, but not all. Some have their own firms (got a great couple of clients right off the bat), some work for the big ones and some were hired by companies to start a lobbying arm here. One works for a large business asscoiation. I do not think its so much who employs the lobbyist (self, firm, company) but who their clients are which usually goes back to where they worked on the Hill. |
Sorry, I actually make $200,850 if you want to be exact about it. |

Me: top liberal arts college BA, JD from a good law school, ~$125K fed lawyer.
DH: ivy league BA, JD from a good law school, $260K biglaw associate. We're in our early 30s and 7 years out of law school. Finished law school with a combined $240K in educational debt which we've almost paid off except for some fed loans that are such a low interest rate it would be foolish to prepay. |
