Does anyone have a record of him being born in Kenya? Back in 1961, a birth of a mixed child in Kenya would have been remembered by many people, including family members who would like to blackmail him.

BTW, to the earlier poster about doctors and nurses not remembering his birth, we in the hospital don't remember from day to day who was born.

McCain supposedly was born in a Naval Hospital on the US military base in the Canal Zone. But his birth certificate (http://www.scribd.com/doc/9934044/John-McCain-Birth-Certificate) says he was born in Hospital Colon. That is also in the Canal Zone, but brithers would no doubt ask why the confusion about the hospital. For some reason I don;t recall the question being raised -- my memory must be faulty, no? Oh, and I think part of the objection to Obama's certificate is that it's not the original with the physician's signature. McCain'a looks like it might be an original, but it does not seem to have a signature; do you suppose that means anything?

If he was born in Hospital Colon, then it was not U.S. soil. "They" don't want you to know that, though. I also heard that the doctor does not recall delivering him, and none of the nurses can be located. Hmmmm....

Sorry, but this is not the case. One of my kids was born outside the U.S. He could be President b/c he is the son of 2 American citizens. He - by birthright - has always been a U.S. citizen. NOT a naturalized citizen. I can't believe how many people think that the ONLY way you can be a U.S. citizen (not naturalized) is by being born here. You can ALSO be a U.S. citizen by being the child of U.S. citizens. Seriously people...

Yes, actually it does in this one specific case. If you are born to an American citizen, you are a citizen. But the Constitution does not allow all citizens to become President. You have to be a "natural born citizen". And that's the difference. It is without doubt that he was born on foreign soil, and according to the constitution, the only people in his situation who are clearly allowed to become president are those who were citizens at the time the Constitution was ratified. There has never been a case to clarify what that means.

So actually, the easy challenge would have been McCain. Except he is white and a war hero, so why would anyone question his authenticity?

Except that many legal scholars have made clear that the "natural born citizen" is not meant to imply only those that were born in the U.S., but to differentiate between citizens that become "naturalized" at some point in their life vs. ones who are born U.S. citizen (by birthright or by being born in the U.S.). It is a very very narrow view of the constitution if you think "natural" relates only to those people born in the U.S. That is not its intent, which is why it wasn't a problem for McCain either.
