Fun/stupid things you spend on

I just spent $275 on a bowl, a marble bowl. It looks pretty on my counter.

I am into audio. Headphones and speakers. I have a number of headphones, DACs, amplifiers (solid state and tube), a 5.2.4 channel system in my living room with two (giant) 21 inch subs. My spouse and kids cant tell the difference between any of this and the music that plays from their iphones/TV.

My two dogs. They were rescues, so the up front $$ was nothing. However- vet fees, insurance, dog sitters when we go away (which is not often), food, etc, probably costs about 800 a month. Last week one dog had a surgery and the cost was 90 % covered, but the consultation and follow up were not- about $300.00 When a neighbor said to my husband something to the effect of dogs being a giant waste of money, my DH said "A whole lot cheaper than therapy." He is right- they are worth every penny every day.

I bought myself a pinball machine for Christmas. I love it and play it every day. I want a second one but will probably pick that up used.

I buy most grocery items generic to save pennies to dollars and I thrift most of my clothes. I also use points for vacations. My newest car is 7 years old and it was a hand me down from an elderly relative. So the splurge is kind of ridiculous.

I love that you did this-- it's a big splurg! But who knows-- it likely holds value?

I was at car wash a couple days ago and the TV was blasting a live auction for a 1962 Ferrari. Gorgeous! When I had to leave the price had gone up to over $35 million! I'm sure when it was new it was a spurge for the buyer, but that has got to be an incredible ROI!

Maybe same could happen with your pinball machine-- that you love and play every day. Win-win!

I have steadily increased my income and wealth over the last 10 years, and no longer stress about spending $75 on a haircut or par of pants like I used to.
But precut fruits and vegetables are something I don’t know if I’ll be able to wrap my head around. Even if I am ever really rich I would not buy them.
Veggie trays at Wegmans are like $25 for about $3 worth of mostly carrots and celery?
And don’t pre-cut onions get dried out or gross? Precut watermelon loses its crispness.
And then there’s the potential hygiene issues. I think most people who buy these things must have crappy knives or lack skills that make the job quicker and more effective. If you have a good knife and basic skill you can dice an onion very quickly. To reduce the eye-tearing effect, I run the cut halves under a little water and that significantly reduces the problem.
Frozen fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, are awesome. Broccoli, green beans, blueberries, pineapple and mango are our staples.

I’m not splurging on much until DC2 finished college, but I’ll probably spend some on a classic car. Pinball and classic video game machines are also calling out to me.

I don't commute anymore, so I always take the toll lanes when they are open. I probably spend $60 a month but don't care. It's my splurge after driving to Capitol Hill for 25 years.

I really like candles and burn a few every night.
I do not know why thrift stores have so many unburned candles for sale. Do people think that they are too pretty to burn?
So they buy or are gifted a pretty candle and are too cheap to enjoy it and they end up being dumped at a thrift store???

I also love tea and need to drink it from a pretty tea cup and saucer.

This is one of my splurges for myself since our last jump in salary! I haven’t chopped broccoli since then. Pre washed salad greens. Celery sticks. Such a luxury. No excuse for snot snacking on a veggie or adding veggies to dinner.
