Most people - normal people - don’t want to have politics injected into every subject they discuss, even if they tend to agree. But discussions of kid’s sports, recipes, or pets don’t all need to devolve into rants about how much you hate Trump. There’s just no need for this.

It’s …….. boring.

How many subjects in your daily life do you think are devoid of “politics”?

Are most of you being deliberately obtuse because you love the current administration? Or are you actually this stupid?

I like to talk about:

My son’s wrestling matches this season and his Scouting activities.

My daughter’s artwork and her volunteering.

Baking and cooking.

Our two silly dogs.

The pet rescue I volunteer for.

Gardening and home outdoors.

Upcoming events in our church.

Vacation/travel plans in my circle of friends.

Work stuff.

What colleges our kids might be interested in.

Trying to figure out what car to get next.

What I’m currently binge watching.

The gym.

Any myriad other things….

None of which have anything at all to do with politics, but all of which I consider quite important and worth discussing with the various people I discuss them with.

I’m sorry you think that’s obtuse.

But I feel more sorry for you, because you have so little else going on in your life that you make a guy who doesn’t even know you exist the eye of your hurricane.

That’s so sad I can’t even imagine what that’s like. It makes me appreciate and realize how lucky I am to be so blessed.

You just said that scouting doesn’t have anything to do with politics so you are obviously too ignorant to understand this discussion.

Ah, yes. Insulting people on your side is always a winning strategy

+1. This forum - which I enjoyed much more during the first Trump presidency - is just not fun anymore because there is no longer any nuance of discussion. The conversations are shouted down with screams of MAGA any time any poster says something 100% not far left.

I only discuss politics with a few friends who I know have views most aligned with mine or have open minds.

I dont discuss politics with my conservative friends and my friends who are more n the far left, I can’t talk to them either about politics.

There is no longer nuance in politics, sweetie. If you are still trying to “both sides” what is going on right now, you are all in on fascism.

It’s not an insult it’s an objective fact. The Scouts literally invited Trump to their Jamboree and then let him spout lies and hatred about Obama in front of thousands of impressionable young people. What exactly is not political about that?

But they know you’ll go rabid and yell maga at them

You call that a “nuanced opinion”? I call that a Democrat. Plenty of democrats believe exactly what you wrote. I have no problems with people who believe as you do, and vote democrat. I’ve got a lot of problems with people who purport to believe as you do, but vote republican.

PP you replied to. Many of my democratic friends can’t stand any criticism of the immigration system or certain types of immigrants. I am an immigrant myself so I’m not as naive and I see a lot of my compatriots abusing the system in many ways. But god forbid you say something, like maybe most or at least some of the Somalian fraud was exactly that?

How were you personally involved with or victimized by the alleged Somali fraud?

Oh, you mean you just heard about it on Fox News and are dutifully outraged?

DP. Wait - you think Fox News is the only one reporting on the Somali fraud? Get a clue and try leaving your echo chamber occasionally.

Maybe, OP, you can respect people are capable of finding the news and/or do not want to have recorded conversations.

^^THIS. It's clear there are certain people - of the far-left variety - who will never grasp that others are also attuned to politics and can draw their own conclusions without having to be lectured to or told what to think. These people will just never get it and will always smugly think of themselves as the smartest people in the room. It's really too bad because they're a huge reason people are repulsed.

when you say things like the "far left variety" you sound ignorant. Seeing who and what trump and his administration stand for and what they are doing to our country is no longer a political conversation. People- the intelligent ones are talking about basic good vs evil and frightened by the lack of humanity in this White House and our country. If you can not understand history and are unable to make some terrifying connections to the present day well then you are repulsive one my obtuse friend.

You prove the point with every single post. Why on earth would anyone want to have a discussion with you? Rhetorical question, btw.

Explain what exactly you think “politics” is

People with no sense of decorum and/or who are delusional enough to think that everyone agrees with them are the only ones who bring up politics and religion. They suck the air out of everyone room they enter, including virtually.

Yes....we should all keep are eyes wide shut and not pay attention to the atrocities going on. This is no longer politics this is right from wrong.

DP. It’s funny that you think people who aren’t interested in entertaining your rants somehow have their “eyes wide shut” and aren’t paying attention. You seem very childish. We all know how to vote, you know.

Masonic Lodges prohibit discussions of politics or religion, recognizing their divisive nature and the near certainty that nothing good comes of that kind of activity, merely enmity. Vote your conscience when the time comes, there's little to no benefit in annoying people around you in the interim by sharing your politics whether or not they are of any interest to anyone else.

Exactly this. But the extremists won’t understand this notion. They prefer to loudly rant and march.

Spot on! People who just assume their friends and family are against human trafficking and extrajudicial executions in the middle of the street simply lack decorum.

Glad you have your priorities straight.

Bullies abound on both the right and the left.
