Why do we have such low standards for ICE hiring and training?

Anonymous
They want loyal goons. The more useless and powerless they are out outside of the MAGAsphere, the better. The less options they have, the less likely they will stand up for the rule of law.

This is really the most accurate answer.

The fewer options these people had under any other system prior to today, the more likely they are to support the regime that puts them on top of the pile over everyone else who used to be.

Some of the loosened standards include:

*minimum age changed from 21 to 18--maximum age cap completely removed (used to be upper 30s).

*some recruits have been rushed through the process without passing the physical fitness test, written test, or a background check

*training time has been slashed from approx. 20 weeks to roughly 6–8 weeks

*worryingly, firearms and tactics training were reportedly cut in half to "cut redundancy"

Ok, but shouldn't Republicans care about this? If they are focused on safety for US citizens, this is basically a recipe for disaster. Again, thinking of the one hospital security officer who made a bad situation more unstable and unsafe - but now we have unleashed people like that across the country.

Certainly does not make me feel more safe, whatsoever.

Why would republicans care about this? They have done nothing to make anyone think they did, do or should.

Because it is easy to be a murderer, and the current admin wants to kill people.

It would be a shame if ICE hired an asset from antifa

James Rodden, an ICE prosecutor who the Observer identified last year as the operator of an X account that posted “America is a White nation," “‘Migrants’ are all criminals,” and apparent praise of Adolf Hitler, appeared to be back at work Tuesday.

Bc they need the most imbecilic, ape-like xenophobes possible.

The current administration, just like the one before it, is not thinking hard about the full consequences of their actions and policies, or the overall effectiveness when future corrections must be made.

That guy grew up in northern VA. He was always a piece of work. Not surprised.

Bovino tells CBS that as much as 95% of Minnesota stands with them.

Even CBs says they found no evidence of that.

Did anyone catch the video of him at target yesterday?

They set up a defensive security perimeter so that Bovino could stand on his little stepstool and make a pee pee in the potty.

That is not to say that all deaths were the result of ICE negligence, but it does raise important ethical issues about the kind of care detainees get while in ICE custody. Below is an article from the Guardian, which is keeping track of all the people who died under ICE custody.

2025 was ICE’s deadliest year in two decades

Thirty-two people died in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody in 2025 – making it the agency’s deadliest year in more than two decades, as the Trump administration moved to detain a record number of people.

Some of those who died in detention had arrived in the US recently, seeking asylum. Others had arrived years ago, some as young children. Some had been apprehended on criminal charges or had served time for convictions; others had been picked up in the administration’s indiscriminate ICE raids.

They died of seizure and heart failure, stroke, respiratory failure, tuberculosis or suicide. Some died at ICE detention centers and field offices, others after they had been transferred to hospitals, but were still under ICE custody. In some cases, their families and lawyers have alleged, they died of neglect, after repeatedly trying and failing to get medical care.

The number of deaths, 32, matched the previous record, set in 2004. These deaths occurred as the Trump administration ramped up its immigration operations, detaining a record number of people in December. The agency was holding 68,440 people in detention in mid-December; nearly 75% of them had no criminal convictions. December was also the deadliest month in ICE custody – six people died.

I'm pretty sure border deaths are way down as opposed to under Biden where border crossing and deaths were at all-time highs.

Both types of deaths matter. Custody safety is a separate, serious issue that will not doubt get worse as ICE activities ramp up. Civilized countries are supposed to prevent deaths during custody.
