NYT on How Biden Lost the Election due to Immigration Policy

• The Dream Act of 2025
• The HIRES Act
• Expanded H-1B pipelines
• Citizenship pathways tied to temporary labor

All while we’re told there is a “tech worker shortage.”

Yet Americans see something very different:

• Mass layoffs
• Hiring freezes
• Jobs reposted as contract roles
• Replacement through outsourcing firms
• Wages flat for a decade

And social media floods the feed insisting none of this is real.

That’s not persuasion.
That’s gaslighting.

When Congress tells voters their lived experience is wrong, skepticism isn’t extremism.
It’s pattern recognition.

We have seen this movie before.

This season, Americans should watch their representatives closely and confront them when the narrative breaks from reality.

It has been nearly a century since Congress last passed a major labor law that clearly favored American workers over foreign labor pipelines. Today, we see lawmakers appearing at ITServe Alliance events, an organization whose stated mission advances large-scale outsourcing. Those appearances are not accidental, and they do not happen without political incentives attached.

Americans are paying attention now.

This.

The forces behind the curtain intend to transform America. They're going to get their way because Congress is letting them, the Supreme Court is letting them, and the President is letting them.

When we wake up in 40 years (I'll likely be long gone), America is going to be just another Third World nation. The grand democratic experiment will be long done. Didn't even last 300 years.

NY Times purpose is to campaign for Republican while pretending to be liberal.

Why Mr. Biden waited so long to effectively seal the border has become one of the defining questions of his presidency.

I stated that Biden needed to get a handle on the border issue as soon as he got elected.

Whoever was advising him on this didn't know how to read the room. I understand Progressives want to protect the most vulnerable, but that is not what is going keep you in power.

I sincerely hope that Dems have learned their lesson and do better in 2026 and beyond. Don't cater to progressives on immigration. That's a losing strategy. Focus on the economy and jobs, not foreigners.

Irrational Dems are not smart enough to not push for open borders. It’s their obsession. And a losing issue.

I can't stand Trump. I disagree with many of his policies vehemently.

I also was disgusted for three years as my elected leaders and their minions lied to me repeatedly regarding their ability to control our national borders. And they in fact worked against the majority opinion of Americans that uninvited people should largely not be released into the country, where they, as foreigners, have no right to be.

So I voted for Trump to stop the lies and disrespect for American citizens, and guess what, he showed, despite all his faults, that our government was not powerless, and it could do something about the problem. I'm sorry it came to that, but maybe listen to the American people next time.

But a New York Times examination of Mr. Biden’s record found that he and his closest advisers repeatedly rebuffed recommendations that could have addressed the border crisis faster, and eased what became a potent issue for Mr. Trump as he sought to return to the White House and justify the aggressive tactics roiling American cities today.

Former Biden administration officials told The Times that Mr. Biden and his circle of close confidants — including Ron Klain, who was chief of staff during the president’s first two years, Mike Donilon, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon and Anita Dunn — made two crucial errors.

First, they underestimated the scale of migration that was coming. Second, they failed to appreciate the political reaction to that migration — believing that stronger enforcement would alienate Latino and progressive voters, and also that a border surge would not be an important issue to most voters. Those calculations would later prove to be mistaken, with many voters, including Latinos, citing immigration as a reason for supporting Mr. Trump in 2024.

This is the crux of the issue. They cared more about re-election, party power, than what is right by the American people.

Two wrongs still don't make a right. All of the political momentum Biden gifted the GOP has quickly been pissed away by Trump's careless immigration crackdown.

disagree

many many swing voters are happy with the immigration crackdown.

mayorkas and Biden screwed the US voters. now we have Trump and his chaos.

False. We have Trump because too many fvking idiots thought that Trump would lower the price on eggs.

DP. I don’t think about immigration at all. It has no effect on my vote.

I voted for Trump because of the border crisis. Polls show that it was the second most important issue, after the economy, for Trump voters.

I disagree that immigration doesn’t affect our lives. It affects everything - from housing costs, auto insurance costs, health care cost, traffic congestion, issues with ESL at schools, etc. I am one of the millions of Americans who is upset with the out of control immigration a thinks it is having a very negative effect on our country.

Thanks for your refreshing honesty--assuming you're for real. I would love to know, if I may ask: besides how Trump has addressed your concern about immigration, how do you feel about everything else he has said and done? And, do you feel that, in the end, it's all justified as long as he continues his campaign to rid the country of all migrants who are not here legally?

most of what Trump has done is awful. He is awful.

but he stopped DEI and he fixed the border.

why cant Democrats focus on helping US citizens?

Fixing the border is fine although the focus hasn’t been on the border so who really knows. All he does is brag about how many criminals and murderers he’s caught and grossly inflates the numbers.

The way they are so cavalier about sending men to a prison where torture is extreme and these men and some women have never been tried and convicted of a crime is reprehensible. Sending South Americans and Asians to war torn countries in Africa to fend for themselves is criminal. None of this is fixing the border. Fixing the border involves stopping people trying to illegally enter the country not people who have worked steady for 20 years, built a family, a home.

Democrats are not in charge, your question should be why can’t republicans focus on helping US citizens. Because Trump has become a dictator where republicans and reporters have become afraid of him. If he’s not focused on loving the mistreatment of our neighbors from the lower Americas he’s sucking up to billionaires, accepting their very large gifts and in return the billionaires are getting what the they ask for.

He’s saying Joe INTENTIONALLY allowed millions of illegals in. Then in Trump’s second term he PROVED the border could be controlled.

So say what you want about the orange guy, he manages to get the job done.

It wasn't important to the democrats though. They explained they would only control the border IF their bill to hire more people etc was passed. I think they genuinely believed voters would accept this as okay.

Perhaps you need to work on your reading comprehension? There are adult remedial classes for that available at your local community college.

Biden - "I can't do anything about the border without Congress" - border wide open
Trump - "I did something about the border without Congress" - border closed

I know you types don't want to address what the Biden people did to this country. They kept telling lies regarding immigration and the border that even the dumbest of Americans could see through. No, the federal government is not powerless to enforce immigration rules.

Sheesh, Trump closed the border within two weeks.

Working people of all races were tired of seeing illegals get free housing, free food, free education and free healthcare under the Biden years.

Perhaps if closing the border was all Trump had done since January, he wouldn't once again be stuck down in the sub 40% job approval land where our awful presidents have routinely been since 2017.

"Open Borders" is not part of the Dem platform no matter how much the right wing lies and claims it is.

Closed the border? Then why do we still have a fentanyl crisis?

It's wild how you people seem to think Trump solved anything when by and large most things having to do with the border and immigration are still virtually the same as they were under Biden... and Trump I... and Obama... and Bush... and Clinton... and Reagan...
