What is the evidence that the girl was "bullied relentlessly"? Or that "she grabbed the first thing she saw" ...which btw just happened to be a very sharp metal object that she then impaled into the kid's skull.

The girl may not be a "criminal mind" but she committed horrific violence that was not accidental. I would not want my kid anywhere near a classroom with a MS student who literally bashed another MS student's brain.

Just bc his mom won’t post his behavior on social media doesn’t make it true. My kid was a witness (who was involved with the police) the kid isn’t innocent. That’s the part she won’t post.

She said he threw a ball at her. He has ASD and could be greatly impacted by it. Thanks to this girl, he is now missing part of his brain. There is no excuse for her using a weapon and this was more than throwing it.

I'd remove my kid from that school.

ASD is not an excuse for repeatedly harassing someone. While impacted, he was not in a restrictive setting so he was deemed capable of appropriate basic interactions with peers. I would be horrified to learn that my child with ASD was bullying someone.

It sounds like both kids had issues, but he probably needed a 1-1 para. The SCHOOL is at fault for not handling the situation. How can you justify a child being hit with a metal object, causing major issues?

Either a CO jerk or some delusional nutjob from OSMS who feels attacking the mom somehow makes Dr. Booms or the school seem less guilty in what went wrong here. Either way, it's absolutely pathetic and disgusting behavior.

Be careful about making judgements before you know all of the facts.

What facts will make the PE teacher who should have been watching the kids not liable?

What facts will make Dr. Booms and the school’s delayed response acceptable?

There is no evidence of this. Maybe some to come but still nothing publicly shared.

How did the teacher not notice a child throwing a ball at another and not intervening? How did they not notice a group of kids chasing another kid with a metal object and hitting him with it? When the child said they were injured, how do you not call 911 and the parents?

PE classes are enormous and chaotic. There’s also a practice in MCPS of taking 2-3 classes outside at the same time and letting the kids mix together for a game. It becomes impossible to really monitor who is playing and who is having a conflict.

No excuse for not following the concussion protocol though.

Then, they should not be outside, they should be in organized supervised sports.

They aren’t the folks DCUM usually cares about so —as usual— this incident has just become a way for privileged people to use underprivileged people’s problems and trauma to further their own ends. I doubt 1 in 10 people here really care about the boy. If they did, they’d be protesting in front of the BOE.

Not everyone has the time to protest and lets be real, the BOE and Central office don't care as it doesn't impact their kids. The best thing we can do is vote out the BOE members and hope they fire everyone in central office.

I hope you realize how unrealistic and ineffectual that would be.

There are people working there who don’t make policy and are critical to the system functioning at all. Firing everyone in central office hurts students more than it would help them.

Are you even paying attention to what is going on in MCPS?

No one is "justifying" the metal object.

No and it was not a "weapon".

Oh for god's sake these are kids. They were fighting for months. The mother of the boy is at much to blame here. Her kid torchured the girl for months. The girl threw something at him of course wrong however she did not thing he was going to the hospital. It is ridiculous to think otherwise.

The mother of the boy has gone to the news many times about her son being "bullied" and "banning books" and other things.

There is a reason the mother of the boy has not sued yet

Stop judging the girl.

Correct. They instead, put him in a wheelchair and wheeled him into the main office or the nurse's office. Which was a big no-no given the severity of his head injury.

He called his mom for help on his phone and was told to sit down and stop.

Why did he have a phone on him?

And he had a head injury and was bleeding, he did need to sit down.

Let the girl and her mother come and defend her in the public then. Stop doing her dirty work for her on an anonymous forum.

Lenny's mom is not hiding her identity, you are, coward.

Are you the girls parents? The girl hit the boy with a metal object causing serious and life long injuries. The boy probably was bullied. Be real. Mcps failed to supervise. Mom cannot control what happens at school. How is hitting him with a metal object ok to you! That is a weapon.

It sounds like he got it out of his bag to call his mom for help. School staff should have called 911 and mom. They did not treat it as a head injury.

Middle school kids do not have developed brains yet.

Lenny was wrong to bully the girl.

The girl lashed out and was wrong to do so, and her impulsive choice led to tragic consequences.

The PE teacher was negligent. Full stop. He needs to be fired.

Dr. Booms' response was less than ideal. Did she do the best with the information she had at the time? I don't think so, but I believe she thinks so.

The initial call to 911 was for a medical situation and it is not EMS's job to call in police or make that judgment. The dispatcher dispatched it as a medical call and that's how it was treated. Dr. Booms treated it like a medical issue (calling a hold, etc.).

The disconnect to me is when did they realize it was the result of a physical altercation and did they react appropriately at that time?

I have to assume this is the girl's mom posting. I'm sorry you're dealing with this terrible incident, but you need to understand that excuses and lack of consequences aren't going to help your child. If she learns that it's ok to act out violently, she's going to do it when she's older and will be forced to pay a real price.

DP, but I have actual brain cells. I know (for a fact bc my child was a witness) that this kid was the real bully. These are 12 year olds....she did the first thing she could think of in the moment after getting hit in the face and being called fat and stupid.I know it's so easy to judge from your point of view.."be real"

The first thing you can think of after getting hit in the face with a football is to pick up a METAL SPIKE and strike the boy in the head?

Not to throw the football back in his face? This makes sense to you?

I'm starting to think you're the one with the brain injury.

So…a child witness. And you are hearing this 2nd hand from your child. Not an adult? Let’s be real. Who is in the hospital again?
