Why is America such a falling empire, and what the hell are its political divisions?

Republicans are hate filled people.

Americans are hate filled people.

My MIL doesn’t even know a single Republican personally, but she speaks of them as the evil, ignorant monsters. She says she’ll never stoop low enough to speak to one.

Hate is everywhere and people have lost the ability to respect others with differing beliefs. They use hyperbole and stereotypes, sticking to the image of the monsters they’ve created.

But republicans voted for Trump, which certainly makes them evil, ignorant monsters. This isn’t a situation with two sides. I’d be happy to see republicans fighting against Trump, I just don’t see any. Feel free to post it.

Such an infantile take. This is the reason why the division grows. Emotionally and intellectually immature adults that are completely unaware of their ignorance. In fact they believe themselves to be the enlightened ones, when in fact they are what weighs a society down.

I would be happy to listen to concerns of a MAGA voter--if they were rooted in the real world. Say they are in an economically depressed area and they are worried about jobs, prices, etc. I would be interested in those concerns. I would be interested in real-world, feasible suggestions for addressing those concerns. There are many problems to tackle and the best way to do it would be by thoughtful discussion and compromise.

But what am I supposed to do when they say hateful things to blame immigrants for ALL of their woes, that ALL immigrants are horrific criminals, that vaccines cause autism and therefore we should just get rid of all of them, that the 2020 election was stolen and the J6-ers are patriots, complete denial of any climate change or its effects, and on and on with the obvious lies and conspiracy theories they accept and parrot. Am I expected to nod along? The endless hypocrisy where they accuse Democrats of doing things that THIS ADMINISTRATION is doing in plain sight? The acceptance of outright corruption by this administration, not to mention the incompetence? The cheering of the demonization and dismantling of the media, education, science, etc. The demonization of anyone with an education and critical thinking skills? The cheering of dismantling of our democratic institutions, due process, deploying the military to cities when there is no actual emergency, etc.?

Exactly how much are we "mature" adults supposed to swallow?

When people have hateful views, spread lies, and say repugnant things about you, a person will have a dim view of those people. This is a completely mature response based on the behavior in front of them.

Seriously, what in your infinitely emotionally and intellectually mature wisdom are you suggesting is going to bridge this gap when the GOP/MAGA side has been playing unfair, outright lying, and painting Democrats/liberals as the ENEMY since the time of Newt? The Democrats did not destroy bipartisanship, call the other side the enemy, and paint compromise as weak; the GOP did. Until they stop and come to the table in good faith, nothing will change.

My MIL uses all of these talking points. She says she can’t speak to Republicans because they hate immigrants, hate LGBTQ+, hate science, etc. The problem is she doesn’t actually know any Republicans and probably hasn’t talked to one in a decade. She lives in a very small, very progressive bubble.

If she were to actually talk to someone, she would find out that they don’t actually believe these things. She’s constructed a view of people she doesn’t know, and she uses it to justify her anger toward them.

The US is a full-on subsidiary of the Zionist regime.

What on earth is going on with the pearl clutching in this thread?

Our country has no sovereignty over its foreign policy.

Then why are they voting for people who say these things repeatedly and consistently enact policies based on these things?

Well I know plenty and your MIL is absolutely right. I grew up in CA and they’ve always been anti-immigrant and were all against gay marriage. Reagan ignored all the gays in CA who had AIDS. They are staunchly anti-vax.

The one thing your MIL didn’t include is that most of them are anti-college because they prefer blue class “morality.” Many, but not all, are religious and want to tell you how heathens are ruining America.

I’ve heard this ad nauseum for decades from MAGA family.

The blind partisans in this thread should give you a clue, OP. Basically your answer is this:

Like all empires, debt will cause the US empire to fall.

When money availability starts to be tighter, people point fingers internally.

Without a coherent, clear external enemy to explain the sense of doom that people get when they know they can’t climb out of a debt hole, people find an internal enemy to blame.

Democrat and Republican partisans are essentially interchangeable in their cult-like tribalism. That tribalism is stupid (anyone with neutral eyes can see massive problems on both sides and yes it is both sides) but it is weaponized easily by the wealthy elite.

The truly wealthy don’t actually care about political parties but see government as a tool to loot and prop up their power.

Empire end.

Wrong. Stop equating Dems and Republicans. Are Dems perfect? No. But, they're nothing like Republicans. The GOP would be burning down the Capitol if Biden had tried any of this.

Also >> Debt CAUSED BY GOP GREED will cause the US empire to fall.

What does it matter if it's revealed (OMG a secret) that I voted for Harris. I've sat around enough dinners to hear that from family, so my voting doesn't negate their ballyhooing, nor how they vote.

And, you and I aren't friends.

Why do we need to talk to real people when we can be fed all the 100% real whole-truth news from Fox News, MSNBC and the likes? My understanding is that all Republicans are bible thumping bigots and all Democrats support men playing in women's sports and immigrants eating people's pets. We all need to keep our heads down, eyes and ears closed to the real world, and by all means donate at least 10% of your monthly income to our wonderful political parties to fight the evil other "side".

Yeah, no. I never walked around with a Biden flag, nor wore a Biden clothes from head-to-toe. I didn't even like Biden, but I voted for him because I like Dem policies better than the Republicans. You sound enraged, using terms like "ilk." My point stands.

We all do still share common ideals and a sense of basic human decency. 75% of our population have been brainwashed into hyper-partisan sheep by very well crafted messaging campaigns employed by our two major political parties using various media platforms. It may take a 9/11 moment to bring people out of their political bubbles and back to reality.

Right. I've explained this over and over to my MAGA brother. I will debate climate change policies with you, but I will not debate if climate change exists.
