So, it’s like a hot plate. Careful mentioning toaster ovens that also apparently triggers some people here. |
Wrong. Might want to go back and re-read. I was talking about why I prefer my children use a microwave when home alone vs a gas stove when the Karen chimed in with her “teach you latchkey kid to use a toaster oven.” I did misread the oven part and asked her how exactly my kid is supposed to put chili in the toaster to which she latched on like flies on shit. I guess that made her feel oh so smart. |
please stop |
Nope. Feel free to stop reading and responding any time you want. |
c'mon dude, stop hijacking the thread, this thread is about a legit question. The toaster/chili thiing is just an internet slap fight. |
Hahahahaha some responses have been legit, but the whole thread is about as idiotic as they get. |
so, please stop |
Do you have anything of substance to add? |
|
All this talk about kids being goods with microwaves—the food can be insanely hot coming out, and w/the uneven heating it can be quite unexpected.
Also, metal in the microwave is legitimately a disaster and dangerous. Even the adults I work with keep trying to put tinfoil in it. |
The difference is an ouchy vs the whole house burning down 🙄🙄🙄 |
I would venture to say 99% people in the US reheat rice in the microwave as part of reheating a leftover dinner/lunch. It is not dangerous. This is is paranoia |
What was aggressive? |
| I cannot believe this stupid thread has reached 8 pages! And yes, I know I am contributing to it, but I can’t look away! |

Use my microwave every day. It's terrific for vegetables, particularly corn. And plain popcorn, which I enjoy as a snack
Also use my high-end toaster oven every day. It's an air fryer and convection oven, too, so we use it when the main oven is occupied. It's nonsense that a stove or oven are just as fast for leftovers. Those appliances take forever just to heat up. Oh, and I'm a food editor. |
If your kid is old enough to stay home and feed themself, they should be able to turn an oven on or put something on the stove. And whether they're cooking on the stovetop or microwaving, they should know how to use a fire extinguisher. I'm not offering an opinoin on the usefulness of microwaves. |
