DD has a consulting gig, but previously interned doing archival work for the government and data analysis for an federal agency. Her friends in the humanities have jobs in Social work, a paralegal hoping to go to law school, and a program developer for a tech startup accelerator. Her Econ friends do IB/Consulting with one going to grad school. |
My son is starting his junior year of college next week. I’ve given him this advice throughout the summer. 🤞 |
Our next door neighbor's kid graduated in '24 with an Econ major + Math minor from a flagship (not elite, but still good). Had a one year fellowship in a different city and is now unemployed living at home. |
Yes. 2025 graduate is a nurse. Great money. Excellent hospital. Terrific city. |
20:42 here: The best part is our daughter loves nursing.
All of her college friends, nursing and otherwise either have good jobs, or are in post-grad programs. Mostly STEM kids but not all. |
The economy is terrible right now with the decimation of the federal workforce and the effects of the tariffs. I know so many people out of work right not, so there is a ton of competition from workers with experience, which makes it nearly impossible for recent jobs. The internship market is really really tough too. |
The kids we know who graduated from Tech with CS who graduated in the last three years all got great jobs. No dog in this fight but agree the claims are weird.
And not a STEM person myself. English major. |
CS was so dumb to welcome AI, which ended up destroying them. At least law and medicine were, for a long time, highly regulated and created artificial scarcity.
My first job was 25 years ago, and i made $50k out of college WITH JUST AN ART DEGREE. My own child is terrified to graduate next year with an engineering degree from a top ten. They're looking at working abroad. |
No, CS companies are smart in replacing some of their most expensive, redundant workers (entry level/low-level engineers without specialty domain knowledge). CS majors were dumb in believing they would hop into this trend and wouldn't get replaced first. |
Proud Bucknell parent here. DS got a great job matching trade tickets for Blackrock ETFs after school. After 3 years they might promote him to reconciliations. He got 3 of his lax teammates hired into the dept as well! The Bucknell street pipeline at work! |
Lol this is so funny and so few will get it. |
I can't tell. Is this the Bucknell booster or someone mocking the BB and inadvertently boosting Bucknell? |
Ugh. Ew. |
Are you familiar with Palantir? Even my own kid, a conservative Gen Z-er still in college, thinks they are evil. |
+ a million |
