Anyone’s kids getting a good job? What did they do? Job market for new grads seems really bad. |
My kids has a job and so does most of his friends. (graduated 2024 - so out one year). A lot live at home the first year to save money and to be able to accept a lower paying job that would otherwise be unaffordable. In fact, more than half of his friends live at home.
They all hustled, did internships or lower paying jobs first, networked and all have jobs with varying pay. The jobs are out there but you need to be aggressive and be willing to move and be open to different opportunities. |
My college grad is working at Whole Foods. BA in the humanities and fair amount of internship experience in publishing. I cannot even count the number of jobs she applied to, most of which went into a black hole. She's still trying for the job she wants and she moved to the city she wants to live in with friends, and at least she's able to pay her bills. It's not ideal but she's making it work. |
+1 Be willing to move. It's hard. I did that, but it was one of the best things I did for my career. |
Yikes. What college? Major? |
Not the OP, why do you care about which college? Major is relevant, however. |

My college class of 2025 kid (BBA in accounting) got a job offer at an accounting firm at the conclusion of an internship. Kid is currently about to start a one year masters program for the credits to sit for the CPA exams. |
My son (VT '25 grad) has a good job as a data scientist in DC. Got it from last year's internship. |
Friend's kid graduated in 2025 in CS but had to move 1500 miles away for a good job with a big company. |
Most 25 grads I know are employed. One is really struggling after numerous interviews. |
Pretty common in CS. |
DD has an architecture degree and has not been able to find a job since graduating this May--ditto her arch friends. She has two friends who are engineering students and they haven't found anything yet either. They all starting looking around March. |
Kid has a gov't job after graduating with a comms degree. It only pays $40k, so he's still at home. |
