Rattled by a friend’s comment- what did she really mean?

I'm appalled at reports of women bleeding out in hospital parking lots during a miscarriage, waiting to get close enough to death to warrant a D&C without the Dr getting charged with murder.

I'm frustrated from all the immigrants (legal and illegal) being rounded up and then given no due process. They don't care if a few mistakes are made (probably a few citizens cooped up right now), or if they were never charged with a crime. Off to El Salvador or Alligator Alcatraz and good luck having anyone even know you've been disappeared, or being allowed to talk to legal counsel. I heard in Alligator Alcatraz, since immigration authorities didn't put them there, they can't go to Immigration judges. And FL, which put them there hasn't charged them with a crime, so there is no state judge who can preside. They are stuck in limbo!

I canvassed door to door for Kamala, attend local Democrat planning sessions, support women's rights, gay marriage and legal immigration.

But, I am tired of too much woke stuff.

I hate hearing NPR talk about "pregnant people and chest feeding". Also using LatinX when 90+ percent of actual Latinos are against it.

I support trans adults being able to work and rent and live peacefully and take any medication or surgery they wish. But I don't agree with giving children puberty blockers or hormones. I don't support men in women's sports and locker rooms. I've read many gay adults (and straight adults who were sissy or tomboys) say if this had been around 30 years ago, they would have jumped at the chance to switch genders. But they are glad they just grew up to be a gay man who loves having his body intact, or a women whose glad she kept her breasts and ability to have children.

I think the pronoun stuff will hardly be around in 10 years. When I was still working, I could tell they were getting close to enforcing it in email signatures or intros at meetings. I opposed it for "woke" reasons, but also because it forces trans people who aren't out to make a difficult choice.

We have a house in town that has a huge banner saying "Immigrants welcome here!". I'm pretty sure they haven't offered any immigrants to stay in their guest room.

So yes, I wouldn't want to constantly be around people who support the woke stuff that drives me batty.

But I want to be part of the woke stuff like abortion rights, vaccinations, scientists, due process and not firing feds who were doing useful work.

Why aren't you an Independent?

I am registered Independent. But I will never vote for a R ever again. Only D or I. And I will volunteer with Democrats. But since I don't subscribe to all the Democratic positions, I'm staying registered Independent.

That makes sense. I am registered Independent as well. I think the far ends of both parties are too extreme for my taste.

This is ridiculous. The DEI "professionals" went overboard and decided that they were the official last word on how people need to speak to each other or about each other. I agree with all the goals of DEI, I think Trump should be in jail, and I actually think that anyone supporting him at this point is a bad person.

But I reject the methodologies, orthodoxy and the piety of DEI practitioners. Your friend is sick of wokeness, and so am I.

It’s none of your business what medical choices other parents make for their kids. And you are a transphobe. Neither of these is complicated.

So everyone should just shut up while you cut your kid’s body parts off?

The health care received by any member of any family from a licensed provider is none of anyone else's business. I guess that does mean you should just shut up about it.

My BFF used Covid as an excuse to take the crunchy to conservative pipeline at full speed. She thinks MAGA is gross, but she’s saying the same stuff, just with more genteel wording. I know I should dump her, but I might be the only person of color that she interacts with so I could be the only way to get through to her.

It means she finds sanctimonious postering to be annoying and she’s glad to be away from it. It’s great to be environmentally conscious, it’s obnoxious to make it your identity for example.

NP.

Really?

I learned about how in some countries (especially in Africa), they perform barbaric FGM on women and girls.

It is not ok. It is NEVER ok.

But we are supposed to just look the other way, because you say “it’s private.” ??!?

A distraction. We're clearly discussing the US in this thread. The health care provided by licensed providers here, with the consent of the patient and (if the patient is a minor) the patient's parents or caregivers, is none of your damned business.

You're not "supposed to look the other way"--you have no place in the exam room in the first place.

Not sure if this has ever occurred to you… but it’s actually possible to roll your eyes at more than 1 thing…

Maybe you were annoying with the topic and she wants to know about people and not about your rants?

If you post here that WE are pregnant, I think you are a pompous ass.
I am a Bernie bro, and super liberal, and wish we had social democracy here.

While our west coast city was pretty different than the east coast, it wasn’t Portland or somewhere like that and I would say most people cared less about politics than money, real estate and home renovations, for better or for worse. Our school stayed out of the fray save for raising money for financial aid and celebrating the holidays of the cultures of all of the families in attendance. Our school community was very diverse, and my own family is mixed- I am white and DH is Asian.

Friend moved away last year. Then came to visit and we were chatting and I asked what she missed. She said “not the woke stuff”.

I’m feeling really weird about that and am extrapolating all sorts of things. I know it gets tossed around on the internet and fox news but I’ve never heard someone use it in conversation.

I think she's trying to wind you up!! Drama!!!
