But they’d be alive if they were just kept home. |
What are you going to do about it?. That is what is being discussed in this thread among other things. |
I think it is far too early to know exactly what went wrong. I think it’s likely that in the end there are decisions that people wish had made differently. At that time, if some of those decisions were made by local, state or national government, it will be very appropriate for people to campaign for people to vote for better decisions, and perhaps elected officials with different priorities.
But now is the time to search, and pray, and grieve and comfort and collect information that will lead to answers. Pointing fingers and advocating for changes is for another day. |
Very tragic.
I have always found the whole concept of sleep away summer camps in the wild extremely sketchy and don't understand how parents send their young children to camp in the wilderness. Extreme weather events, crazy shooters, poisonous snakes and critters, usually rough conditions...why would you let your kid be in camp? Nope. |
I'm going to continue to vote in my family's own best interest, I'm not gonna bury my head in the sand and pretend that global warming doesn't exist. |
A lot more than you, who apparently believes mocking the race and religion of dead drowned children on an internet message board is “doing something.” |
Sure but the PP is saying that these children would have survived a flash flood if Harris had won. That is delusional at best, and grotesquely manipulative at worst. |
Quit trying to dictate and enforce a boundary on discussion. Allowing for a "thoughts and prayers" period is what undermines acknowledgment of hard truths. This is the time to discuss and demand accountability. Texas leaders are having no problem trying to point fingers at the Federal govt right out of the gate. |
Interesting feature article on the camp from 2011, which cost $4400/month 14 years ago. I’m guessing it’s significantly more now.

Seems like a good idea. |
The reality is something like this is extremely statistically rare. It’s incredibly tragic and lessons need to be learned from it. But, camp has so many benefits for kids. My 9 year old is at one now and having an amazing time. I will send her again next year just as I send my kid to school despite the similarly statistically rare possibility of a school shooting. Tragic, unexpected, heart wrenching for the parents. But we have to live life. We can’t put kids in a bubble. |
You're not answering the question and no one is mocking the people that were lost in the flood. You focus on scolding people if you think that's going to protect anyone from a flood. And make sure you vote for people that think it's more important to keep dollars in their bank accounts and their friends bank accounts then try to prevent the loss of human life. I'll focus on solutions and science and data collection and analysis and flood mitigation and warning systems and protection of human life. |
JFC. Some of you are beyond disgusting. No friggin' wonder you have a moron in the White House. Children are DEAD. |
Sadly, you could say the same thing about sending them to school these days. No one’s doing anything about that, either. |
Sounds like something that young children would have fun triggering in the middle of the night. |
