NP. Child isn't being punished. The parent decides best course of action based on what options are available.

DP here. I DO vote for Dems. I believe in affordable healthcare for ALL US citizens (not just the poor) and believe in investing in quality public education and affordable childcare for all US citizens.

AND, I believe in secure borders and deportation of those without legal status to be here. I don't believe any warm body should be allowed to claim asylum and roam the country free indefinitely while we decide what we are going to do with that. And I support a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship.

Letting this mother stay with her potentially terminally ill child while they receive medical care is the right thing to do. You don't like asylum laws, fine. Change them. But the law is as it is now. You don't just deport people willy nilly who are following the correct steps!

If she was deported, an immigration judge had to issue an order of deportation. Migrants with active asylum claims cannot be deported. You have no idea about the facts of her case, but since she was deported, her phony “asylum” claim was obviously denied. These people coming here from Central America are economic migrants. They are poor, not persecuted. We can’t take in all of Central and South America’s poor. We don’t have the resources. Biden’s disastrous open border policies put tremendous strain on local communities, schools, the health care system, etc. People are sick of our tax dollars being spent on illegal immigrants.

Maybe asylum claims wouldn't take so long to process if they stopped letting everyone and their brother make an "asylum" claim to begin with. Most of them are in reality economic migration and don't have credible asylum claims. They only say that because they are told to say that so they are not turned away at the border. Maybe I am being a d!ck here but do people just...not think before having children? Am I the crazy one?

My husband and I are really debating this right now...can we afford it? Is it fair to have children in light of all the chaos the world is in? Would either of us be able to get more flexibility at work? Is our house in a good enough school district, and if not, can we afford alternative options? Can we afford to pay for college?

If I were in another country illegally, the last thing I would be doing is thinking about having kids. Sometimes I legitimately think I am crazy for weighing this decision so much.

That being said, I really do think an exception or arrangement of some sort should've been made for this poor woman, and of course her child who is blameless in all this.

The US Citizen child has stage 4 cancer and lost access to medical care. That means they'll likely not live much longer. But ICE will be able to notch up its targets by deporting the child's mother, so the US citizen child can spend their last days in confusion and agony. Jesus would not approve.
