DP here. I DO vote for Dems. I believe in affordable healthcare for ALL US citizens (not just the poor) and believe in investing in quality public education and affordable childcare for all US citizens. AND, I believe in secure borders and deportation of those without legal status to be here. I don't believe any warm body should be allowed to claim asylum and roam the country free indefinitely while we decide what we are going to do with that. And I support a constitutional amendment to end birthright citizenship. |
Sure hon. Letting this mother stay with her potentially terminally ill child while they receive medical care is the right thing to do. If you disagree, it’s not about politics at this point, it’s about your values. Strongly suggest you look at those first and then vote for the party that is in alignment with those values. I don’t think you’re being honest about who you voted for. |
I don't care what you believe. Not every Dem supports illegal immigration. We wouldn't have to "let" her stay with her child if she didn't come here to begin with. That's on her. |
+1 You know who isn't paying their fair share in taxes thanks to very highly paid lawyers and accountants who specialize in tax avoidance? Donald Trump and Elon Musk and their friends like the private equity bros making billions off the backs of people paying ridiculous costs of healthcare. The only "accomplishment" of the Trump presidency will be cutting taxes for the ultra-rich. I'm sorry that people want to obsess over the cost to taxpayers for an undocumented woman and the cost of her terminally ill US Citizen child, but you're missing the big picture. |
Some of us are capable of being angry about both things. The only reason her child is a citizen is because she broke the law in the first place. It's not the flex you think it is. |
I hope that the doctors here can coordinate with doctors in Honduras to continue this child's treatment. This case illustrates why birthright citizenship needs to end. Don't break the law and reside in the country illegally in the first place if you don't want to risk having your family split up. |
For many years our immigration laws were not enforced at all. Illegals have been extremely comfortable living here and taking advantage of social services without any fear of deportation. Both parties were responsible for the issue. The democrats liked the idea of future voters and republicans liked the cheap, undeclared labor. The country reached a tipping point where US citizens have had enough. I have voted for democrats because Trump and the current GOP is a total clown show but I strongly support border enforcement. I don't think that we can enact the types of programs that will support American citizens if we have millions of illegals in the country and there is no accountability. |
Thank you. Especially the bold. Public education and healthcare in particular are currently buckling under the weight of illegal immigrants. Anyone who bothers to look can see that this is directly affecting the level of service those places are able to provide (or not provide) as a result. This isn't theoretical. It's happening right before your eyes as we speak. |
Ah, the "illegals are raising my premiums" lie. Yeah, the insurance companies love that one, as they record profits.
Your premiums are going up because you have no other options and Mr. CEO needs another vacation house. |
Again, it can be both. Let's address BOTH. |
+1. This is why we need a third party. The middle class is being destroyed by both parties. Americans overwhelming want secure borders and less immigration but Democrats are doubling down. This is a big reason why Biden lost and why democrats will continue to lose. |
She came here looking for asylum (legal!) and was taken into custody "last week after attending routine check-ins with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Louisiana>" So doing everything correctly, not roaming the country freely. You don't like asylum laws, fine. Change them. But the law is as it is now. You don't just deport people willy nilly who are following the correct steps! And if you do so, you find a way to make sure the stage 4 cancer citizen and minor gets his meds because we are the United Freaking States of Merica, not some backwater authoritarian cruel regime |
The common sense questions should be asked in court through due process required by our laws before a US citizen is forcibly removed from the country without due process. Agree? |
OK. Let me know when Republicans come up with an immigration policy that recognizes that undocumented labor underpins entire industries, and one that doesn't involve moats and machine gun towers. |
Yes. Every day and twice on Sunday. She made the choice to jump the border and drop an anchor baby. That kid does not convey legal status to his mom. |
