I completely agree with this ^^.

I completely disagree.

So does most of the world. UVA is near the top of most beautiful campus lists every year. Never seen the other two mentioned.

OK. But I have seen Georgetown listed many times as well, which boggles my mind.

I can't even get over how someone can think this. Georgetown is objectively beautiful. And UVA in my opinion is tiers above JMU. One is a generic college campus by the mountains with nothing much to do outside of that and the other a walkable campus with beautiful architecture in a charming and vibrant college town with a lot of stuff to do in the area.

DP. Oh wow. Both Georgetown and UVA each have one small area that is attractive. That's it. The rest of the campus, in both instances, is mediocre to ugly. JMU not only has a lovely campus, particularly the bluestone/quad area, but is also located in the gorgeous Shenandoah Valley, and surrounded by low mountains. It's also a walkable campus with plenty to do in the area, to include lots of outdoor activities.

Man, some people get so butt hurt that some people like UVA and Georgetown more than JMU. Why so defensive?

Not really. The people that can’t understand why someone would turn down uva get defensive when you tell them not everyone would choose uva over jmu.

Literally no one is getting defensive that some people prefer JMU. Like someone else said, you can't really compare the 2 since they're so different.

DP. Are you joking? Have you even read the thread? There are several people - or possibly just one very insecure person - who shouts at anyone daring to say they preferred JMU, or their kids did. It's actually kind of amusing how upset this person is that anyone would prefer it over UVA.

What makes them so different?

JMU students seem more laid back. Same with VT. Many UVA students seem to think a little too well of themselves. I can say that when hiring new grads from all three schools, the JMU and VT grads are much easier to work with in the first few years after graduation, and I will hire them over a UVA grad right out of school. After a few years, they all level out and they are the same.

Jmu is more laid back. Some kids like that and some do not.

I know I, personally, would rather go to JMU, but I have a kid who would be all about uva

This is my take too. I have a kid who is UVA academic material, but with a JMU personality.

Would VT be the best compromise?

Yeah...clearly a miserable place to spend 4 years.

For some it is .. my God. Just give it up. You can't expect everyone to love the same thing.

JMU dissolves its DEI offices - excellent news!

The funds from this division, in addition to new financial aid money being provided by the university, will be reallocated to support Pell-eligible student scholarships. In total, after four years, this initiative will positively impact approximately 300 students, create greater access and opportunity and result in the reallocation of approximately $1.8 million toward financial aid for students.

Can you post the list?

Your last link has Virginia Tech - but not UVA. Oops!

But also not JMU. It has VT, W&M, and W&L.

Maybe JMU is even better but a hidden gem that’s undiscovered. Do you let puff piece lists dictate your life?

+1000
I recently toured all three and this was exactly the impression we had.

Wow! Really? I am a JMU grad and don't think it's anywhere near as pretty as UVA's grounds (which is a UNESCO world heritage site). The JMU quad is lovely, but the rest of campus is bisected by a major highway and features many, many ugly 70s buildings (The Village, Greek Row, dorms on the hill). And the new dorms across 81 are very industrial-looking and unattractive. I loved my time there and love the school - but this is an odd take.

In this particular sub-thread, the PP (you?) claimed that UVA was on all those lists. It is not.
