College and University Discussion
| Which college has happier students? This isn’t a question about rankings. We are thinking about fit and the social vibe at JMU and UVA. DD is in at both. |
| JMU 100% |
|
Aside of trolling, UVA is overrated, but you choose UVA no questions asked over JMU.

Broad generalities are neither useful nor helpful. Your child is an individual, not the average of a large group. It should be blindingly obvious that a given individual may be happier at one or the other without regard to whether some number of unrelated other individuals who are not her are happy or unhappy at one or the other. The reasons why any one individual likes or dislikes a school may be entirely irrelevant to your daughter, whose tastes, preferences, personality, ambitions, interests etc are surely different.
Make the decision on objective relevant factors, not whether you hear anecdotes about happy and unhappy students, which undoubtedly exist at both schools. |
| JMU. Anyone who says this is unanswerable is a UVA parent or stupid. |
| OP Troll, or very uninformed! |
This is nonsense. Some kids might do better at JMU. |
Do you have anything useful to contribute? |
| What does your question even mean? I’m sure there are happy students at both. Shouldn’t you really be asking where your child would be happiest? And isn’t that a question for him to answer - both in the short term and the long term? It’s a complex decision but I’m not sure your question is getting at the answer. |
maybe 1150 SAT kids, but they wouldn't have the option for UVA in the first place. |
Are you a uva booster or something? We know people that have turned down higher ranked schools for jmu. |
| I know very happy kids at both. However, the UVA students are more academically serious but still having a great time. I'm saying this as a JMU alumni with no kids at UVA. I would think one would be a more obvious fit than the other. They each have a vibe. |

Why kind of student do you have? UVA is for kids who can't stop, won't stop. Kids who want the prestige and like the traditions and are super ambitious. They will do well under pressure
Jmu is more laid back. Some kids like that and some do not. I know I, personally, would rather go to JMU, but I have a kid who would be all about uva |
I don't' like UVA. It's very overrated and was at the bottom of my kid's list just because instate flagship, but WTF who turned down UVA for JMJU??????????????????????????????????????? |
Are you drunk? |
