Republicans are increasingly anxious about a midterms wipeout

Yes it will face court battles but at this point so what. It’s not like many are doing the job and I would use their failing to show up for town halls (and their leadership actually saying they shouldn’t) as basis of them not being representative leadership of the people.

How does that work? Who would initiate a recall? (I’ll Google it, but I would also appreciate helpful responses. )

DP...there are no special elections in the US Constitution. The Congress could impeach the entire cabinet and install a compromise president (by making them speaker for a day) to form a new cabinet to finish out the term. But obviously that won't happen.

Who here wouldn't want Mitt and a bunch of semi-retired Dems and Reps of the traditional form, run a bi-partisan coalition government until the 2028 elections?

I’ve been wanting someone middle ground for a while. So tired of the left-right extremists

No, the Republicans claimed that the Democrats focused on “identity politics” — and the chumps took it as gospel and ran with it. It’s pretty easy to tell when people who claim to be “middle ground” are getting all of their “news” from MAGA-friendly sources.

Stop the gaslighting. I live in Takoma Park and the identity politics are real.

Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous for people to say with a straight face that Democrats aren’t obsessed with identity politics. We all live the daily results of that obsession.

+1 According to Tim Walz Democrats should embrace identity politics even more.

Good news though - it’s 2 pm and the nasdeq composite is down slightly over 5% today. S&P 500?is only down 4.2%.

Trump Depression here we come. But at least the penguins won’t be shipping us untariffed penguin products. Phew.

You're a big part of the problem.

DP. Why is the PP a big part of the problem?

If Democrats would focus on the economy and stop fighting battles on fringe issues, they will win in 2026 and 2028. They just can't let go.

the democrats were and are focused on the economy. the economy under Clinton, Obama and Biden runs CIRCLES around what Bush, Bush Trump and Trump have done by every metric: GDP, job creation, stock market growth, you name it. Harris was focused on more job creation and reducing costs in housing, drugs etc while also being focused on bringing back manufacturing jobs which started in earnest under Biden.

If people don't know these things, then they are getting their information from bad sources, and hence what the PP was probably trying to say when claiming that the other PP was part of the problem.

No, they really were not. But the Rs did a good job of painting them as such and then backing them into corner about it.

Keep telling yourself that. Bill Clinton successfully moved to the middle. Why can't Democrats do that today?

the democrats ARE the middle. It is the GOP that have gone off the right wing cliff into authoritarianism and protectionism.

All that matters is Trump gets egg prices down and gas prices down.

Same. I am so sick of the crazy ends of the spectrum. They aren’t functional on either end.

True statement.

Also true statement: the far right is the core of the GOP, the far left is just that, the far left. there are no far left who are in democratic leadership. See the difference?

When Clinton triangulated, the GOP regrouped, moved right, and re-emerged as the Tea Party.

After Obama, they moved even further right, rebranding as MAGA.

Every time the Democrats move to the center, the GOP moves to the right, dragging their base and the Overton window along with them.

Nothing is ever the fault of a Democrat to you, right? Like they lose, it’s the Republicans fault? They waste billions on clearly faulty campaigning, it’s the Republicans fault?

When do you ever take responsibility for Democratic failures?

democrats didn't nominate Trump three times
democrats didn't elect trump twice
democrats didn't fail to remove Trump from office
democrats didn't fail to bar Trump from running after staging a coup

EXACTLY. Democrats have nothing to offer to working class Americans.

Democrats have NO leader.
All they do is HATE the President.
So SAD.

Ok, so how does that happen?

Right now we have:
1) trash the economy
2) ???
3) America is great again

please explain the ??? that will get manufacturing back, supply chains in foreign markets reestablished, education and medical research back on track etc.

Things will be better in a couple decades. Unless Trump folds (possible) or Congress stops him (also possible). But either of those possibilities won't happen today or tomorrow.

There will be enough hurt to wreck the midterms and the next few elections after that. As Republicans well know.

It will take more than a couple of decades to repair the damage being done to the relationships - both economic and political - with our closest allies and trade partners.

Uh, no.

That is quite obviously not how Republican representatives roll.

Democrats are for civil rights for ALL people. The GOP paints that as "identity politics"

Rubes fall for it every time.
