Should schools be underwriting private education for the already privileged?

Sorry that these types of kids are in fact better than your kids. Bankers and big law kids are a dime a dozen. The school also wants the kids of scientists and journalists and people who have goals and priorities other than making every penny possible.

This is interesting! let's build on this. Can you elaborate why the Types of Kids produced by lightly UMC parents are better than the Types of Kids birthed by a lawyer? I'm mostly interested in the specific differences you see in your classmates.

MC and almost UMC kids are actually the dime a dozen population, and you'll find them in droves at the big public down the street from the $$ private.

These aren't MC and UMC families. They are upper class overspending screaming poverty

Literally no one here is doing this.

Aid. Many affluent upper middle class African American families receive aid in my kids private school. I believe poor families should be the ones receiving financial aid.

This is a stereotype, but honestly if people are so prejudiced to assume all black people are getting aid, at that point we should all apply. Imagine not getting aid and having everyone assume you do b/c you’re black. You’re definitely an unconscious racist pp.

It’s not unconscious.

The framing of your question is the subject line is so biased it doesn’t merit a response. - my 7th grade financial aid kid

Hispanics are a larger fraction of the us population and tend to have lower incomes than African Americans because they are many illegal immigrants. I find very unfair that the financial aid is race based. It should based exclusively on financial needs regardless of the race (if they are African American, Hispanics or Asians) .

I find that many private schools they think they are doing a good thing by helping affluent African Americans families.

What do you think?

I think you are biased in your assumption about who gets financial aid. I was an financial aid student at a private school (not in DC) and most students assumed all the AA students were on financial aid (they weren't).

I learned over the years that there were many white students on financial aid who flew under the radar or pretended they weren't on FA. I'm willing to bet there are plenty of non-AA students at the school that get FA, but they are able to "pass" because people just make assumptions.

I have to sacrifice a lot of things including vacations to pay for full tuition. I do t want to help with financial aid to families that regularly take vacations. Specially if they are not grateful and complain about the white privilege. My privilege is providing the financial aid.

If you’re sacrificing a lot to pay full tuition, you’re probably not subsidizing financial aid. Not trying to be mean, but how much are you donating exactly? The smallest donors seem to be the biggest complainers.

I suggest you attach a note with your next financial aid donation outlining the specific ways you expect families to grovel for your money.

What I pay in full tuition and donations is more that what families with financial aid contribute. Hence I am paying a larger share of schools revenue.

It’s easier not to donate. Affluent African American families can go to good public schools.

No, affluent African American families will send their children to whichever schools they choose (including elite private schools).

You will continue to seethe and wallow in your racism. Next caller.

Seems like maybe you should apply for financial aid.
If families who can afford to vacation get it, why wouldn’t you?

I realize many schools are different in their approach but having applied for financial aid on a variety of platforms I can say that they basically have all your information. Like, what is there to even hide in the tax returns and 1099s and w2’s we submit?

It definitely sucks to not receive aid when you need it, but it sounds like some of the bitter folks on here actually haven’t applied for it and are just assuming they won’t get it.
