I began it on audiobook... do not recommend this medium as it (of course) jumps around and I did NOT follow what was going on even though I knew the main conceit of the book going in. Gave up. Then found a physical copy in a neighborhood little library... and started up again, enjoying it much more in book form. (That said, I’m pretty tired of the whole WWI-WWII setting, so we’ll see...)

I loved this book so much.

I did a double take and thought maybe I had posted this!

I also didn't like All the Colors of the Dark but I did enjoy The Wedding People, and I read them both in close proximity as well, how weird!

All of the short chapters in All the Colors of the Dark are frustrating to read.

Russian Warfare and Influence: States in the Intersection Between East and West by Mikael Weissmann and Niklas Nilsson

A Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks about the plague in a small english village. obviously a dark subject matter but I find it really interesting and well-written.

Great book! I read it a long time ago and then re-read it when my middle schooler had it as his summer reading assignment.

I read Holes when my MSer had it assigned. I hated it Another assignment was The Golden Chalice about a boy in ancient Egypt. I loved it. We should have a new thread on "rabid readers who steal their kids books and read them in a day to see what they are about"

I think Holes is a great book! The movie was good also.

He finds out the student has died and creates a best-seller novel around the stolen plot. But then he starts getting blackmail-type communication from someone who knows he stole this completely unique plot. I'm about 3/4 through and looking forward to finishing it today.

I'm also reading Amy Tan's journal of bird watching in her backyard, complete with her own bird drawings. I'm enjoying it a few pages at a time. It's very calming during this busy season and has me re-interested in my own backyard birds.

Ironically, this one sounds like it ripped off the plot of Yellowface! (Kuang) Unless it is very meta and that's part of the plot itself!

I was thinking the plot sounded so familiar but I hadn’t read the book. Yes!

DP. The Plot came out 2 years before Yellowface. Now I am curious about who “borrowed” from whom.

That’s the first book I read by her and loved it. I went on to read most of her other works and liked them all, except, oddly, for March, which won a Pulitzer.

The Plot came out before Yellowface, I'm pretty sure. They're really different books - both really good! - though you're right they share that theme.

I also read The Plot and enjoyed it. I'm on the waiting list for The Sequel.
