December - what are you reading this month?

“Haunting of Hill House.” Meant to read it at Halloween but got behind on my reading list. Loving it so far. I’ve read a fair amount of Shirley Jackson (my favorite being “We Have Always Lived in the Castle”) but never “Hill House,” strangely!

Just finished Intermezzo, which I really liked and in the middle of The Husbands, which is better than I anticipated.

can you lay out what worked in Intermezzo? I have zero desire to read anything by that author, but if someone convinced me, I'd try it

Same here. I wasn’t a fan of Normal People but would give Intermezzo a shot if you could share what’s good about it.

Great book! I read it a long time ago and then re-read it when my middle schooler had it as his summer reading assignment.

I read Holes when my MSer had it assigned. I hated it Another assignment was The Golden Chalice about a boy in ancient Egypt. I loved it. We should have a new thread on "rabid readers who steal their kids books and read them in a day to see what they are about"

So far I think that way I have read Animal Farm and A Long Walk to Water - both worth reading IMO .

I read Animal Farm when it was MY assigned reading! I should read it again. As a teen I shrugged it off. As an adult now with my teen having read it (and 1984) it's much more chilling!

Loved the Wedding People but I thought All the Colors of the Dark was ridiculous. I hated it.

Just finished The Road by Cormac McCarthy and enjoyed it. It was bleak, but that seems about right given the political climate.

I'm reading Crossroads right now.

Rough sleepers about a doctor in Boston who created a medical outreach program for unhoused people on Boston. Also re-reading Middlemarch for a book group.

Loved this book. Have been to Castle Howard, which was fun.

I read A Raisin in the Sun when my kid had to read it. Fabulous play that I had never heard of. Kid was blown away that I read it in a day.

My books this month include This is Happiness, which I read because Williams had another book coming out that I couldn't get from the hold list. The writing was beautiful, but I needed more action. Not sure if I will actually read the new one.

Then I read Call Your Daughter Home. FABULOUS BOOK! Some very tough themes. The writing was rock solid and the character development was some of the best I've read in a long time.

I adored Sky Full of Elephants. One of my favorites as of late. Read The Midnight Feast, and it was fun. Entitlement was a letdown. It was just trying too hard. All Fours had me running to therapy. It was incredible and disturbing and hot and shocking.

The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell

Really like being transported to a different time and place. She paints a vivid picture!

I'm so happy when other people read and love Sky Full of Elephants!! I read this a few months ago and still think about it. It's definitely one of my favorite books of the year.
