I don't like his novels but read this when it first came out (nearly 20 years ago?!) and loved it.

I got to page 200 of The God of the Woods and realized it wasn't getting any better. Clearly I am in the minority, but I found it dull. There were too many characters, POVs and timelines. Perhaps it all gets neatly tied together at the end, but I felt like there was a lot of pointless information.

I switched to When She Was Good by Michael Robotham. It's the 2nd in a series. I flew through the first one a couple weeks ago and I'm flying through this one. My attention span has been off for a few weeks (which could be why God of the Woods was a miss) and these books are propulsive. I highly recommend them if you enjoy crime fiction.

I feel like I really have to be on my toes to keep up with the connections between chapters, because they are not always obvious, but it's so compelling I'm about 3/4 thru now.

Anyone else reading it, or something different that is great?

I am the Op from the other thread n discovering new authors. This was the first of his I’ve read and really enjoyed it. I always enjoy a good mystery, and it’s great to find one that is well written. I really liked the main characters, too. Reminded me a bit of Endeavour or Foyle.

Now reading Snow by the same author and enjoying that, too.

I'm reading Brideshead Revisited and it's so, so good. I read it about 20 years ago and loved it then as well.

Great book! I read it a long time ago and then re-read it when my middle schooler had it as his summer reading assignment.

City of Light, City of Poison: Murder, Magic, and the First Police Chief of Paris, by Holly Tucker.

I'm trying to read unread books on my shelves instead of getting new ones.

Just finished Nicked by MT Anderson. It's so good, after the fall of the Roman Empire, but Byzantium is still in full swing. Characters want to steal the corpse of St Nicholas because saint relics are so popular. Every church needs a body part or two to attract pilgrims!

Next in the pile is "Hope this finds you Well" but I have some "started" books that I may try to get through first.

I read Holes when my MSer had it assigned. I hated it Another assignment was The Golden Chalice about a boy in ancient Egypt. I loved it. We should have a new thread on "rabid readers who steal their kids books and read them in a day to see what they are about"

Just finished God of the Woods. Didn’t really care for it. Too many plot lines/characters that didn’t seem to lead anywhere and the mystery got wrapped up kind of quickly.

So far I think that way I have read Animal Farm and A Long Walk to Water - both worth reading IMO .

I read this last month and loved it!

I’m reading First Lie Wins and am about halfway finished. It’s been pretty meh and I’m debating whether I want to stop.
