You see, this is why the W schools are stereotyped as being the best performing high schools in the county and the state, yet still can't fix the problems with fighting and security. |

I mean, the group home is where kids go when their parents can't or won't handle them. The answer you are asking for is already here. |
They won't be expelled. |
The staff doesn't care. They are basically prison guards and glad to make them schools problem for a few hours. No rehab is happening. They go yo school and then wander the neighborhood. Where do you think some of the petty and not so petty crime co.es from? You can't really be that naive? |
Is this confirmed? Also, if MCPS can't kick them out the shelter should. Why would they want the liability and to continue to harm others in the shelter? |
Not in this quantity or level of violence. Do you realize what it takes for a teen to get locked up these days? We aren't talking about small matters or selling pot. We are talking about murder, rape, agg. Assult, use of guns, gang affiliated offenses. |
Sadly, no, the facility operates with no transparency or scrutiny. |
Isn’t this an argument for remote learning ? It’s not like they learn anyways at least they’ll be safer at home |
No, they don’t have the right to continually beat up classmates. They should be in juvenile detention with educators, counselors, and facilities able to handle violent kids. We don’t need to redesign high schools into prisons because a handful of kids act violently out of thousands. That is a huge waste of resources and obviously unfair to thousands of kids. |
No, they absolutely would not. They are at the group home because they do this stuff. It's literally a home for violent offenders. It's what they do. They aren't kicking them out for doing what they do. If it's a PO violation, they might get punted back to prison for a while, but no, for the group home, it's businesses as usual. |
This needs to be how kids who behave disruptively continue their education without harming their peers or teachers. |
My daughter attends Whitman. She has personally witnessed two fights this year alone. These fights are a weekly occurrence. They just aren't publicized. Nothing happens to these kids. This is not the first video I've seen. Many times the videographers are in on it - notified in advance so they can capture it - they are not simply bystanders who take out their phones. The videos may not make it to X or the local news but they are widely circulated amongst the students. This violence is not a new trend. A few years ago a kid brought a skillet to school, stood up in class, took it out of his backpack and smashed another kid over the head. Did you hear about it? Nope. Miller's letter referenced the situation being handled according to the MCPS Code of Conduct. Does this rise to the most serious Level 5? Even if it does, Restorative Justice Practices are the primary intervention which means nothing will happen.

Again, from the group home... |
This is why my kid is in a private school. |
