You can try to get rid of the Second Amendment, do your best.

People say they want the country to be safer. That would do it. Won't happen in my lifetime though, unfortunately. But I've already bought my retirement home where I don't have to worry about it, so in 5 years I really don't care what happens here anymore.

You hate the freedom and right the constitution gives to America citizens to own guns. Enjoy your retirement.

Yes, I think that amendment is outdated with today's technology. I hate the mass shootings, and that kids have to do active shooter drills starting in kindergarten. It's only going to get worse as weaponry advances. And yes, I will, thank you.

- but you still voted for two people who both boasted about owning automatics. Brilliant logic there, PP.

Moron.

Was there another candidate? I just prefer to live in a country where gun ownership is not necessary.

What country is it unnecessary to own a gun in?

Gun ownership is not mandatory in the US. Gun ownership is not a requirement to live in the US.

I don’t understand why people think Americans should discard rights because they don’t like them. They are rights, for everyone. If you don’t like the right, just personally decline. Don’t think everyone should give up rights just because you don’t want them.

Just because I was born American does not mean I have to agree with everything in the constitution.

Correct. But also you should not want to take away the rights of other Americans based on your opinion. Don’t they get their opinion too? Or does just your opinion matter?

What country are you retiring to that is so incredibly safe and crime free that guns are completely unnecessary?

You believe having guns reduces crime? I think the statistics in the US show the opposite. On the other hand there are plenty of countries where gun ownership is illegal or highly regulated and their crimes rates are much lower. Japan had 3 non-gang-related gun homicides last year. But you obviously think they need guns to reduce shoplifting.

Do you think Americans should keep the constitution in place, or get rid of it?

I don't think anyone was suggesting to get rid of the constitution. Personally I think some things should evolve, or we don't survive as a society. It's simple Darwinism.

BREAKING: TRUMP TO MAKE NOT RETURNING YOUR CART A FELONY, ELIGIBLE FOR DEPORTATION

SOURCE: ASSOCIATED PRESS

"Everyone knows you return the cart. I return the cart. I've returned the cart many times. The best people return the carts. But there are some that are too lazy to return the carts. They are narcissistic and we will deport them. Believe me."

Sure, but it’s the easiest thing to deal with. We can just say no. And after this election, the mandate is there. The politicians just need to do it.

What does massive illegal immigration mean for the "DC Urban Mom"?
- lower landscaping costs
- lower house cleaning costs
- lower renovation costs
- fully staffed kitchens at the restaurants i like
- basically anything i consume costs less!!
- All upside!!!!

What does illegal immigration mean for working class americans?
- lower wages
- over crowded schools
- competition for scarce govt benefits
- crime
- massive cultural change in places they live

For these reasons, any discussion of illegal immigration on this site is completely worthless. All comments are invalid.

More than they are to you, because I don't want to disrupt them by wasting our resources on building internment camps, which... I dont know if you got the memo? Usually create people who hate the people who put them in internment camps.

Well, swamp creature, as you all are here, I'm sure that's true for YOU. You love your cheap lawn, your cheap blow out, your cheap gel manicure, and your off the books nanny.

But for those of us who really are working class Americans? The kind who come from four hundred years of working class people in this country? We've been here long enough to realize there are always more waves of immigration. That "cultural change" isn't a bad thing when it means meeting new people. That our nation is big, was built on immigration, and, while it *would* be fantastic to have immigration reform, Republicans would have to agree to hold businesses who employ illegal immigrants responsible for that to happen.

They won't. This Trump plan is just a massive pork barrel. Corporate welfare for his cronies.

But you... You're upset because Lancey has to go to school with the landscaper's kid.

We can’t take care of American citizens, why are we letting people from other countries come to our country against our laws, and taking care of them?

We have the money to deport illegal immigrants and secure our border.

Lol. Would love to see a citation for this. Of course you won't be able to provide one and will scream "cry more liberal" when asked.

It’s not. Undocumented immigrants pay $96B in taxes annually at all levels to offset benefits.

Let’s fine Walmart for underemployment of its workers, who use benefits disproportionately.

Let’s fine white plumbers and electricians and severs who don’t report all their income.

It is adorable that you believe $96B comes anywhere close to covering the cost of massive amounts of illegal immigrants in our society.

In addition to taxes, illegal immigrants put around $254 billion a year into the US economy. And, the cost TO the US taxpayer is significantly less than that.

What is your point?

Tourists also pour in billions of dollars into our economy. When you travel to Europe, does the fact you pay VAT, hotel, and all sorts of other taxes there entitle you to their country's benefits that are given to citizens? Hell no. He argument that illegal immigrants pay taxes via sales, etc. is dumb. Those are consumptive taxes everyone pays. We don't grant citizenship to tourists simply because they come here and eat food or buy clothes. The lion's share of taxes are paid for by INCOME taxes to both the state and federal govt. You cannot earn legal income in the United States without a valid I9 and a SSN/ITN.

Pray tell how all of these illegal immigrants are holding legal jobs with valid I9s and are all getting SSN/ITN to pay their required share of INCOME taxes that our citizens are forced to do. Taxes paid from consumption is a ludicrously stupid argument.

Let's up the ante for the employer.

Make it a criminal offense with significant fines and mandatory jail time for the C-suite (leadership) and board of directors. We can allocate the 96 billion in taxes paid by undocumented immigrants for enforcement. I bet the employment of persons who are not lawfully able to work drops when the CEO faces 10 years in jail and a 10 million dollar fine (noninsurable or reimbursable) for employing a dozen or so illegals. Your Uncle John who hired the guy to help with the fence? He's off to jail for a year. 50,000 dollar fine.

I'm as pro immigrant as they come and I'm fine with that. Why don't we do that?

Oh right. Republicans like Devin Nunes and his dairy farms don't like it.

I agree with most of what you are saying but there are two key points you left out. These waves of new immigrants need to include people from all over the world as opposed to 96% of them coming from one region of the Americas. Secondly, any amd all immigrants need to be documented and admitted through a process that starts in their home countries and doesn't involve people walking for 400 miles with small children on their backs.

DP.

Lancey ALWAYS had to go to school with the landscaper's kid unless Lancey's parents wanted to pay for private school.

There is no country in the world that can politically survive open borders.

You see populist nativist politicians rising to power all over europe.
You know why?
It's over immgiration issues.
The Netherlands, one of the most liberal countries in the world just elected someone that is a lot closer to an actual nazi that trump over immigration.
It's happening all over europe

I'm not for open borders.

I am for birthright citizenship. It's why we let you all stay, no sense in pulling the ladder up now.

I'd love immigration reform. I don't think it's fair to work people like slaves for starvation wages. I don't think it's fair to anyone, and, Franky, of your landscaping was more expensive, maybe you'd get rid of those environmental catastrophes you call lawns.

Re the earlier poster who said we need to "let in more people from different places, not just the ones carrying kids on their backs for 400 miles?" Can you just take a sec to think about empathy there? Just for a second. What do you think your ancestors did to get here? Did they cruise on over with an investor's visa and some loot from the old country? Or were they fleeing persecution? Were they desperate for a better life for their kids?

I know you all spout the standard xenophobia about "those sorts" but we have plenty of cities and towns that have been revitalized with new residents. And we have plenty of room for more.

https://apple.news/Azc_QxwuoTymMEiX8wszEtA

First, this is going to take years to construct, and will line government contractors pockets with the overhead. Second, US citizens will be responsible for housing, food and transportation costs during the time period for adjudication. It seems like this set up is aimed to further privatize the deportation process at an enormous expense to American taxpayers.

Why is this more viable than having immigrants work while awaiting adjudication? Increase tracking capabilities and require employers of immigrants to maintain information on them. It will cost a fraction of the money used to construct and maintain these facilities.

Abolishing Citizenship by Birth, demanding E-verify, fining employers and sub contractors of illegals, deporting fraudulent ID holders, taxing $$$ remittances, and Remain in Mexico/ close the damn borders to illegals will work well without the busloads and cargo plane loads of visa overstayers and border sneaks.

But that can be a phase 2 if necessary once the illegal economic migrant incentives are normal. Can even enlarge the worker visa programs then- but no bringing wives, kids, cousins, etc BS. They can get their own worker visa.

Won’t it be amazing to know who actually is in then f’in country?

Instead of having 30,000,000+ and growing illegals hanging out in the schools, hospitals, NGOs, crazy drivers.

+1000

Things have been going backwards badly for about 30 years now. Look at public school downward spirals in LA, Miami, MoCo, Fairfax, border cities.
