Not so much the ref. Those VDA parents were just abusive to our girls. Why rub it in? Yelling at our girl during a throw in, saying you suck. Who does that? |
When they said “you suck” they were talking to you. |
My DD is really interested in VDA but recognizing we live in Fairfax County, the commute to the PW fields is a concern, but VSA isnt bad. Question, are most of the players from PW and VSA or are you drawing from elsewhere? In general, where do you see girls coming from to play at VDA? What is the average commute people are tackling? |
VDA practices in Haymarket twice a week. Many of the players do come from PWSI or VSA which is their pathway but they do take players from outside as well. There are tons of family that travels 1+hrs one way to be on a team. |
Those families are likely in Stafford, Fredericksburg or further. Northern VA has two other options with better commute times. |
You have to be able to make those teams though. |
VDA has players from basically everywhere. It ranges from Winchester to Richmond and all over northern virginia. There was a player from Williamsburg a few years ago. If you’re genuinely interested and not trolling, you should reach out to the coaches. |
Thanks and yes, genuinely interested. We are a couple years out so waiting to see how the ECNL girls teams shake out first as well as coaching, etc, but this does seem like one of the more stable and promising programs from outside looking in. |
You are a couple of years out - meaning your kid is what, 10? Geez dude. |
Tryouts are a year away, seems relevant. |
They're from nova, closer to those "other options". They choose to travel to a better club, that so hard to envision? |
Not all “options” are created equal. |
I understand that PWSI, VSA, and Herndon are feeder clubs to VDA. Do any players from Herndon make the teams? Does playing for Herndon give you any sort of “in”? Wondering more for the boys side. I don’t really understand the feeder club thing and how it works if ECNL tryouts are open to everyone anyway. Are the ECNL coaches watching the kids at the feeder clubs more closely/more often, so they are a known entity at tryouts compared to kids from other clubs? Or is it truly just marketing BS? |
Yeah, there really are no “ins” just based on being part of a feeder club. There are ins if you have some sort of substantial relationship w/ the club, such as a donor or whatever. There definitely are Herndon players who have moved to VDA on the boys side, but the logistics of making practices in Woodbridge 2x/week and Haymarket 2x/week are a little too much for most. |
Was just reflecting on my daughters youth soccer years.
Was going to say something negative about the amount of time spent traveling to get to a better team (played against not for VDA although the landscape has changed) but in retrospect the many hours we spent in the car together was probably more valuable than anything she ever did on the field. |
