So we’re talking about dresses like this, right? For 15-year-olds?

Gross!

It’s short and fitted…. Pretty sure it isn’t gross….

That's not the style I've seen-- it's not that fitted unless you are wearing a too small size and at least on the model it's a bit longer. I've seen a lot of stuff like this:

https://www.altardstate.com/as/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/angie-sequin-mini-dress/004124_CD52514-0022.html

https://www.altardstate.com/as/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/braelyn-strapless-bow-mini-dress/001173_25EG750B8I-1996.html

https://www.altardstate.com/as/clothing/dresses/mini-dresses/esmerelda-satin-mini-dress/001890_E1159M746JD-4779.html

And my objection to these is not that they are sexy-- I have zero issues with teenage girls dressing sexy. It's that it looks uncomfortable. It looks like something you will be tugging at all night that long. And the photos I've seen a lot of the girls seem to be sizing down in these dresses. I don't think it's to be "hotter" -- I think they are instinctively trying to get the dresses to fit tighter in the mistaken belief that a tight dress will stay in place better.

Anyway I'm problem here is that these dresses are highly impractical and don't really fit.

Interesting…I don’t find any of the above dresses offensive in the least

Every one on here claiming to be offended by this is either the parent of a boy, or the parent of young children. Either way, what you think about it is irrelevant.

Yes, they are super short. My daughter wore super short Nike shorts under hers. Too easy for a wardrobe malfunction to happen when the dresses are that short and it’s young teens wearing them- and in heels.

Something about it makes these ladies feel uncomfortable inside. Maybe they didn’t have the confidence at that age or they truly believe men can’t control themselves when they see skin.

+1. It seems like 95% of these posters do not have a teenager daughter but they sure have a lot of opinions on teenage girls.

+1. Really gross to see these comments in 2024.

I have a teen DD who went to HoCo. I would not let her weary a trashy dress. They look like prostitutes. Her friends came over our house all dressed up, and omg.. they looked like they were spilling out of their dresses, constantly pulling the skirt down, but the bodice up. FYI if you constantly have to fidget with your dress, it's probably not appropriate.

I’m sorry your kid wasn’t allowed to wear something that is fashionable. Did she wear a DVF wrap dress? Or Hanna Andersen? My kid is allowed to wear what she wants to Homecoming and also has the sense to find something she is comfortable in.

I'm sorry you aren't able to have any discernment and don't realize that there are dresses that aren't something like what prostitutes where or what the Amish girls wear.

And I'm also sorry that you would let your DDs dress like street walkers.

Why make them wear tops at all, except for pasties?

+1 why not let them where a bikini to HoCo?

Acting like this is your daughters somehow showing agency and having body positivity is just dumb. They are sheep.

Exactly. Do the girls dress like this when it's an all-girl gathering? Or is it just when there are boys there?

Yes, they dress this way when it’s an all-girl gathering. Many of the groups are just girls and they don’t go to the dance. They take pictures and go out to eat. Not hanging out with boys.

They dress this way, take pix, and put them on social media.

Have I just missed the social media photos with the kids who are creative and express themselves differently or do those kids just not go to homecoming dances?

This is definitely connected to the wealth of the school/families. I have friends whose daughters attend these schools and this exactly describes the pictures she shared. My DD goes to a title 1 that is very diverse. The homecoming dresses and looks were all so different and unique. There was no “look” that all the girls had. It was actually great to see them all expressing themselves through fashion however they wanted.

So do you let your DD dress the current fashion, or no?

That's nice to hear. Yeah, the stepford girls look is lame.

First of all, it’s wear. And second of all, if you actually had a teen you would know that no one actually attends HoCo any more. It’s lame.

Nah. We are at a Title 1 and everyone dresses like this.

Are there kids at your school renting buses to take the kids to the Lincoln Memorial for pictures and then to dinner?

I hope not. It's such a waste of money. Echoing a PP who said, this is not a wedding ... sheesh. Get dressed up, go to dinner, take a few pics, show up at the dance to be seen, and go home. Kids should not be spending $500 for HoCo.
