Disney this long weekend

Disney parks are reopening tomorrow. Op already canceled but I don’t see why others shouldn’t go if their flights to Orlando are fine and it’s up and running there.

We’re set to fly out tomorrow morning.

Reports are that WDW didn’t lose power and damage is very minimal (aka just branches in the pathways).

As long as MCO is running flights in, we’re planning on going.

Yes it was pretty obvious from everything that was forecast that things would be fine by Friday, assuming that your airline has your plane and crew in the right place.

+1. OP if you are not schedule to arrive until at least Friday you might be fine. I'd wait and see because any reservations you have are likely to have liberal cancellation policies due to this and there is a chance Orlando could be fine by the weekend. We just don't know yet.

Would you look at that. WDW opening Friday and operating normally. Hmmm. Its almost like...people were overreacting.

Totally random question. Is the equipment (rides etc) safety tested for hurricane winds?

Yep. Disney is exceptionally well prepared for hurricanes.

It is quite astonishing how they seem to come through them.

Part of why they are so resilient is for the reasons they got demonized by Republicans last year - because they have, essentially, a private government that serves only Disney: Reedy Creek. Their own safety inspectors, their own safety standards, their own fire house, all that. It means they can be more responsive to their own needs - and hold themselves to a reliably higher standard than some run of the mill amusement park.

I don't know what that looks like since DeSantis took over Reedy Creek. Hopefully they are still able to be as careful and safe as they were before that happened.

Orlando Airport just announced they are fully open for operations tomorrow. Tonight they're already open for domestic arrivals.

Like 95% of their rides are fully indoors in windowless structures.

Oh yes, it was totally obvious! All of those idiots who prepared shouldn't have bothered-because YOU found it obvious from everything that was forecast that things would be FINE by Friday!

You should be the person who forecasts these things! Because of you, things will be FINE by Friday! It's like yesterday never happened. No one has any problems at all.

It’s more than that they have superior infrastructure and adequate drainage to deal with the preditable heavy rain fall.

There was never really any serious damage forecast for Orlando. Stop being dramatic.

Yeah. My oldest child is a roller coaster fiend so we have been to a lot of parks and have done behind the scenes tours at various parks etc. nothing compares to disneys level of safety planning and the incredible thought they put into all their plans. I wouldn’t trust six flags to make it through even a tropical storm, but disney is very well prepared for this stuff. Even yesterday they had character deployed to the hotels to entertain guests who couldn’t go to the parks, gave everyone free in-room movies, etc. I’ve heard people say a disney hotel is the best place to be during a Florida hurricane. I’m not curious what crowds will be like over the next few days — I’m gojng to check the crowd calculators!

+1. Orlando was always going to be fine. You didn't need to have a crystal ball. You just needed to refrain from hysteria and actually listen to the Orlando-specific information.
