| I genuinely admire the guy overall, and have no issue with him running it, but why did he go up and hug the gold medalist afterwards, since neither was wearing a mask, and it seemed unnecessary. I don't think it was a jerk move in the sense that it was intentional, but not well thought out. |
This exactly. The Olympics have brought zillions of people from all over the world to one city on planes. You have to assume 1-2 people have covid in every room you're in. If athletes were concerned, they'd be masking all the time. For the most part, they're not. So no, Lyes isn't "a jerk" to run. How ridiculous. |
I agree. We now have the tools and the knowledge to protect ourselves if needed. Wear a mask and check the waste water data if you're worried. Stop trying to control everyone else's behavior. |
| Same as a cold at this point. Sucks but it is everywhere |
| Covid is rampant in the Olympic Village. A crapton of swimmers caught it. Some dropped a race or two, but others swam. I’m sure it’s been the same in other sports. If I’m there I’m presuming I’m exposed, period. A quick hug in the open air isn’t really that risky. He must be feeling like garbage if he’s out of the relay. |

Illness is pretty common for the athletes in the Village. COVID is no exception. You’re bringing in young, hot bodies from all over the world and throwing them in close quarters in a novel
Location at the culmination of YEARS of their work. Pearl clutching over them possibly transmitting COVID after they’ve probably swapped many things with many people over the past weeks is kind of hilarious. |
I have no problem with Lyles running in his races with COVID. I don't agree with the perspective that no one should have to take measures to protect others when they are aware that they have COVID. That's my issue. He competed in the preimins and finals when he knew he had COVID and the other athletes didn't know. He did wear a mask at times but was also up close and personal and in closed spaces without a mask at other times. I don't think it's an unreasonable expectation to want those who know they are positive and contagious to at least wear masks outside of the competition and perhaps avoid indoor spaces with others during that time. |
Unless you’re an Olympian competing your expectations are irrelevant. |
You know this is what these nutters are gunning for. Thankfully it will never happen but they’re foaming at the mouth for another shutdown. And posting on DCUM. |
You routinely come into contact with Olympians? What about you neighbor who went? Want them to quarantine too? |
Just stop. Nobody loses their sense of taste from a cold. People are dealing with horrible long covid for years. |
I had covid and so did both of my kids - we all have our sense of taste. I don't understand your comment. |
The vast majority of people who had Covid aren’t. Sure some are but it’s the minority. Yes, it’s still just a cold for most. |
I lost sense of taste from colds before 2020 and Covid, why would you say nobody? Where did you get that information? This isn’t some special Covid side effect nobody ever heard of or experienced before. Would take weeks to come back but eventually it does. |
| Neither. I think his trainer/manager should have not let him run, because he has asthma. |
