Is there any way that we could quarantine these athletes when they return from Paris?
Who is we? What does this mean? And why would "we" quarantine Olympians but not any of the thousands of people who travel daily with infectious disease, including Covid? Whatever it is you are afraid of here is already happening all the time, the people spreads my illness just aren't famous. It's extremely likely you have spread contagious illness before too.
What if someone catches Ebola?
Do only Olympic athletes catch and spread ebola? The point is that you f you think Olympic athletes should be quarantined then you should be advocating for all travelers to quarantine. You just happen to know Lyles has Covid because he's famous and his Covid is impacted a job he did on TV. It makes no sense to quarantine him but not any of the thousands of other people traveling after a Covid infection. Why is Olympic college vid more concerning to you than the Covid that ripped through someone's family reunion or wedding or summer camp?
But we know that these people have been in extended close contact with others. We also know that they have not been taking any precautions like wearing a mask when not actively competing. Why should we have to accept their failure to perform even basic health and safety measures?
All of which you could also say about many people attending sporting events and large gatherings all over the world. I have family who recently went to a huge family reunion with hundreds of people who had flown in from all over the US and abroad. Only a handful of them masked at the reunion. Should they all be quarantined? Like just think about this for 10 seconds and you will see it does not make sense. If YOU are worried about Covid then you can of course mask in public spaces and avoid crowded areas. But you aren't going to successfully argue in favor of quarantining everyone who doesn't do those things.
I agree. We now have the tools and the knowledge to protect ourselves if needed. Wear a mask and check the waste water data if you're worried. Stop trying to control everyone else's behavior.
