It was 100% a pay to play. Democrats have been trying to get it passed- in full measure not just for civilian feds- for decades. Republicans were primarily opposed to it. Trump got it as a trade but I 100% believe Ivanka saw it as an opportunity for positive coverage with democrats and younger crowd and Trump got the space force, which is what he wanted. Also, its approx 3% of the fed workforce each year that would be eligible for leave according to OPM. The positive coverage they got from that- which actually promotes family first policies- was incredible and worth the amount spent every year. It also increased retention of younger employees and there's improved retention in fed as employees age so keeping someone there in their 30s pays dividends down the line for hiring and training costs. Unfortunately, it seems like they are now trying to fire or make most of the employees that benefitted from PPL with the RTO mess. |
Everything is pay to play in DC, buddy. The point is Ivanka got something done - period. And there's a disconnect of federal parents getting a new benefit that feel uncomfortable with having to admit that just maybe, just maybe, one good thing came out of the Trump presidency that directly improved their lives. If anyone is too uncomfortable with taking a benefit from the Trump administration, then by all means, don't take the parental leave. |
What does this have to do with pay raises? Current messaging on all fronts from the incoming admin and Republicans is that they intend to freeze pay. |
Nancy was SOTH when it passed. If the GOP had a trifecta, they would not have approved PFL for Feds. It was all part of the horsetrading that MUST happen when the opposition controls the House. It's not like Team Trump wrote the legislative text for PFL! lol |
Never said it wasnt something good! Paid leave should be universal BUT limited to X births (not a total welfare proponent). As someone who experienced a postpartum without any between two of us and my current postpartum with at least one spouse on paid leave it means the world. The second iteration of trump government doesnt seem to be promoting it any further in the private sector nor requiring it from government contractors who receive X% of their business from the fed. And in fact, seems to be denigrating the entire fed workforce versus expanding benefits to make it competitive with private sector. Including supporting little to no pay raises nor expansion of compensation at the top of the scale. |
I don;t think he would do that. Noone cares about feds. |
|
What I don't get is why wouldn't he do that now? By executive order he just gave everyone the 24th off and with the looming shutdown he has nothing to lose. I say he should go out in style and issue the 4.5% pay parity because pay freezes are coming and it's going to be a long cold winter. |
PP is right, they don't really care about federal employees to do something like that. |
| Musk and trump are trying to eliminate any pay raise at all. |
Military raise is mostly targeted at junior enlisted folks and is being done to help with current recruiting/retention challenges. Civil service (overall) is not having similar problems with recruitment retention. Of course, a very few narrow exceptions exist for a very few specialties and a very few high COL areas. |
| My intel says pay parity is coming! Cross your fingers |
Right you've got this amazing intel and somehow there is 0 press coverage about it. Everything Biden thinks about doing is leaked to the press but somehow not this...sure. |
| Why haven’t we heard anything yet? My expectations are low but I’d still love to know. |
| Federal death row inmates get POTUS commutations, while Feds are waiting for a few dollars to try to keep up with inflation. |
