Having fun!!! While BLACK!!! The horror.

Yeah, that video doesn't look horrible to me. I might worry there are too many people in the pool and that could be dangerous for weak swimmers. Especially if people are drinking or smoking. But in general...seems fine to me.

That’s your only worry watching that video? Seriously?

Yup. It's not my thing and I wouldn't go. But what else is wrong here? Too many people? Maybe? A rich parent held our private school's annual gala at her 10,000 sq ft home up in Darnestown about 10 years ago, and we had that many people. Outside. And a band. And speeches on loudspeakers. And nobody in the neighborhood complained.

That video depicts behavior, both minor and major, that presents significant risk of harm of serious injury, death and sexual assault to the people in it.

Do you all know what happens at high school parties in these same neighborhoods? I have seen the videos on instagram and snap chat. They are insane and those are minors. But......they are almost all white. So maybe that's the difference?

That is also bad and illegal under some different laws. And police are very often called to high school parties, of course, and they respond. There are other differences of course: home owner sponsored, not a for profit event. But still another illegal nuisance that neighbors are right to complain about.

The usual DCUM posters

The noise is a serious issue. You don't have the right to prevent other people from sleeping because you want to throw an all night 1000 person party in a residential neighborhood. Stop making this about race when it has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is a public safety issue, fire hazard, emergency vehicle access, violating dwelling occupancy rules, illegal alcohol distribution. This part was illegal and complete chaos. MOCO needs to crack down on this madness before someone gets hurt or killed from illegal parties.

Yep. But "don't yuck someone else's yum," according to the twit poster above. It's ok!! They're not hurting YOU!! Don't be a "racist"! Honestly, the thought that some of these posters might actually have kids is frightening.

Probably not any more than who are sexually assaulted at bars across DC.

There is an app for that - swimply.

The point was that was illegal to do it in the county. He proposed legalizing it but I am not sure how that went.

DC bars pay taxes, so it's legal.

+1

The noise is the problem.

I think the only interesting issue is that there's an owner who is inviting this sort of event, as opposed to having a stable renter, and so an event like this might happen often. I think most reasonable people could live with a big party like this once or twice a year, but not as a regular occurrence. If anyone has ever driven around Potomac when Congressional Country Club hosts a tournament, this is actually incredibly tame.

Congressional hosts a golf tournament at a house in a residential neighborhood in the wee hours of the night, has a DJ, gets everyone drunk, sets off fireworks, and leaves behind tons of trash? Do they do it monthly? I’m surprised residents of Potomac don’t mind that.

The bars have legal liability.

Well, now you're introducing new facts. If there was a DJ that was playing music that could be heard by neighbors, fireworks, and trash that was not promptly cleaned, and all of this is happening monthly, then those seem like the areas where people should focus their complaints. But lots of people in this thread were instead hypothesizing about sexual assaults and complaining about too many cars.

Those were the neighbors’ complaints on Nextdoor. Partygoers saw this advertised on social media, but the neighbors weren’t given any warning and suddenly people started descending on the neighborhood. Buses were dropping off partygoers at the local community center, which the neighbors said was “trashed.”

Another difference: the attendees end up on SCOTUS. (Bethesda parties of yesteryear ~ Potomac parties of today)
