Why do so many parents let their kids just stay home?

Yeah and apparently it gave parents the idea that parenting isn't important either.

So where does parenting come into play....oh right never mind.

This right here. Districts showed THEY did not care that children were not in school, and now they wonder why parents picked up on that attitude? Come on.

HAHA this is funny so now we need to convince you to care as a parent. WOW...wah covid wah go private

DP, and we are. Remember if enough people do, your funding gets slashed.

Why not go to Disney when its cheaper or extend that overseas trip by a few days?

This is the answer. Attendance nationwide took a dive after COVID.

Are we still blaming COVID for anything we disagree with or don't like?

Neat.

There aren’t enough private schools enrolling enough students for this to actually make a difference. I’m not worried.

My kid missed more than 10 days going on college visits and auditions for college programs and scholarships Rigorous schedule, AP Scholar, high grades, honor grad.

She is definitely contributing to the bad attendance stats, but has better grades than most of the kids attending regularly.

I think that covid consequences for many kids are going to be around for a long time.

My kids were at all 3 levels when this started. I had an elementary student, middle schooler and 2020 kid

The 2020s seemed to be the most resilient, in my opinion.

The ones who were in elementary school were front loaded with a lot of behavior problems for a year or two that mostly seem to be finally improving, but many are still struggling academically. They have developmental holes academically that are going to be difficult to fill.

The ones who are class of 2021 through 2026 who went through middle school and most of high school during covid seem the worst off emotionally and socially, and also academically. Many are fine. But the ones who aren't, who lost themselves to tiktok during covid are not good.

My kid has missed fifteen days of school this year because SOMEONE's kid keeps bringing strep, norovirus, etc. to school. That's why my kid has missed school.

Stop sending your sick kids to school and mine won't get sick.

Oh, I assure you as a teacher, we know exactly how your kids are.

If you know how the kids are, why do you turn a blind eye while they bully each other?

I had straight A's in high school. Could have skipped 30% of days and still had straight A's. It is not that hard. Schools waste so much time all day.

PP here. Think about it. The typical / average adult 20-40 years old is pretty stupid overall. I'm talking average/median adult, not the high achieving Ivy DCUM (which is less than 5% of population.
