Less than 5 for the changeover. However, in the next year we're going to know where all this leads. Once the direction becomes clear everyone will race to be involved with the winning team. |
How about a simple NWSL announcement of forming an academy system. How about start there, you know, with an actual statement of an actual plan or an agreement. How about show us the announcement where MLSNext officials and GA officials are actually announcing this merger into one organization. Where is the press release? And then show the similar press release of MLS and NWSL becoming a single organization. Nobody is arguing the need they are only debating both the current feasibility and likelihood of it happening now. And even an optimistic 5 year plan does nothing for current GA/ECNL aged kids. |
| True. That's how all these companies get us too. As parents, typically there's a new wave every year and in 4-5 years most of us won't care anymore and the vicious cycle continues. |
Standby other assertions not this one. Despite it being the name of the thread, which was absolutely intended as a troll post I would assume did turn into a decent discussion about what if GA had the academy clout MSLN has. |
This my fear too cause it really is all about that paper, however the NCAA paper situation will move this all along in far less than 5 years. |

Something is going to happen. When it's a factor for Saban leaving Alabama, the college game is headed for a change. |
| He was hiding under the bridge the whole time. |
It doesn’t matter when because at the end of the day the best players will have the best spots in whatever league is considered the best. So racing there first just gets you replaced first when the best players decide to switch. |
Best can also mean worst tomorrow, it depends on the coach. |

The NWSL teams that have academy’s now don’t take from them. In fact a couple of the NWSL academy teams are average at best. Just another sad GA parent grasping for something that was never there and never will be. The women’s game is so different from the men’s.
And who was it that said DA was better than the ECNL? Laughable. Within 5 weeks of DA league play and seeing the GA level of comp the DA was inundated with, the better clubs all went back to the ECNL. Year 1 and 2 of the DA was a mass exodus back to the ECNL for the clubs that were allowed to rejoin. Pay attention to facts before spitting garbage. |
| They should focus entirely on the younger ages and develop skills, academy style. Let ECNL and GA do their thing with the older ages. |
What they should do is play less games overall. But when they do play make age a variable. As an example if you play 2016 make teams field 3 2017s and 3 2015s on the 2016 team. This would force clubs to look at players as an age range. It would also stop clubs from collecting talent and not challenging them to play up. When you do age range games it forces clubs to train ALL the players as a group because it's the only way to consistently win. It also gives players more opportunities to play up and down. |
This is why DA collapsed and MLS wanted out of DA. To many rules, too expensive and too restrictive. MLS just wanted a league to play in and they just wanted to control their academies as they saw fit. MLS is not interested in fielding or developing a NT. MLS and NWSL goals are not your goals or US Soccer's goals. |
This is exactly what MLS Next Acadamies are doing except for players playing down. Acadamies want players playing up. It's what they scout for. The reason for this is because ideally they'll find the next super talented youth they can field on their MLS team via a homegrown rule and not have their salary count against the salary cap. |
