How do you get into Honors College? Is it something that should have been requested with the application or are selected admits offered HC?

Everyone’s automatically considered for honors and all of the other LLPs if they apply EA. No separate application.

Sorry. what's an LLP?

Yes. I can’t imagine it’s not a typo. Congrats to her. I have 2 terps and DH and I are alum. It’s a great school!

Rejected here too. 3.97 unweighted. 4.75 weighted. Solid application (two varsity sports, captain of 1, 500+ community service hours, awards won, other clubs) Test Optional

From where? That's frankly hard to believe. Even TO.

I'd almost call bs on this but I guess anything is possible. Has to be some reason to get rejected with those grades.

I'd make some noise if I were you and set on MD.

State residents do deserve acceptance. There is no rhyme or reason to UMD acceptances.

UMD can't accept every single applicant from MD.

Also, as they say, "it's not the university of montgomery county", if that's where you're from.

UMD is hard to get into now, and they don't care about legacy.

OOS needs to be capped. . Similar to UNC - Chapel Hill. Terrible.

Oos is capped at umd. They have usually 4500 fall freshman. There’s only so much room unfortunately.

Most of MD’s population is in central MD. This is the most logical place for the majority of local kids who aren’t wealthy to want to end up. Maybe if UMBC and TU offered more majors, more local kids would want to attend.

I hate feeling like my family got lucky when I know my kids worked so hard the past 4 years or longer, but I do feel like at least six just as deserving seniors I know are left shell-shocked tonight.

UMD is a tough admit.

Nothing is guaranteed. Many kids have the academics and ECs to warrant admission.

I agree. UMD doesn’t get the respect it deserves here. Every year we have known of impressive kids who weren’t accepted who were shocked. My own DD was grateful to get freshman connection when she started. My youngest is unlikely to get in at all.

Does this include ACES. My kid is a 2025 grad who wants to be in ACES. Is it seperate application or are you automatically considered?

All automatically considered as long as they submitted EA. Also, if someone isn’t admitted to a program, they can apply to some programs starting in Ma because spots open up after kids decide not to attend.

Stats are 4.0/4.8+, 1500 SAT, mix of AP and IB with 5s on AP exams, and solid ECs, not in sports but music, debate, etc. we are in MCPS, but not from a W school, me of the ‘lesser’ schools that often get criticized here. Didn’t apply for CS or Engineering, just the main Arts and Sciences.

That is unfortunate- UMD doesn’t reconsider. Sorry

Not a big deal. They have to pick a track. They change the tracks every 2 years or something. This year's track 2024 is new.

My DC is going to drop out of honors; they think it's a waste of time because they are going to double major, and the extra honors classes will slow them down.

But they got great housing freshman year.

Are they still guaranteed on campus for 4 years? That was a huge perk.

Yes

Unfortunately it is a top 50 school and not all students can be admitted to the maryland flagship school.
