Especially the private school teams. |
I’ve always wondered this too. Is there some bro pledge every lacrosse player in the country is required to sign? On the flip side, I’ve never heard of a cross-country team anywhere populated by mean kids. |
It probably attracts the type and repels those who aren't the type now. I think you take a physical full contact sport like hockey or football and then add a massive dose of privilege and you get lacrosse. It's a terrible combination |
Lacrosse is a brutal sport. Even more so than football IMO. They literally run around beating on each other with sticks nonstop. The bruises my nephew has on his arms are unbelievable. My kid runs cross country. They do tend to be the chill kids, at her school anyway. |
Going to a Maryland game to see a mix of body types is an interesting choice. There are more girls on the roster above 6' than below and 6'0 seems to be the average height https://umterps.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster |
We did talk about it. And my kids are young teens, so, at the risk of being hypocritical, they are prone to generalizations and "facts" in ways that adults often aren't. |
Okay. Well, you can doubt it but it's true. I had a conversation with a couple adults who raised this, which is even more making me wonder |
Volleyball girls are certainly the “Popular mean girls” although not all of them are mean there is always that group of 4-7 girls that are jsut brats. Rolling their eyes and just yelling at their teammates and not telling them what they can do instead. Even in 5th grade girls were already mean during volleyball. If you don’t want to become a mean girl or have to interact with them then definitely don’t play volleyball. |
This thread makes me sad. I played varsity volleyball in MCPS in the 1990s and the culture was so friendly and inclusive. |
I think it’s a sport that tends to attract the popular girls, which will tend to be a little more mean girl than the nerds for sure.
I think this is because it’s a sport that doesn’t start young unlike almost all others. Most girls I know started in 4/5th or middle school. They join at that age bc their friends are doing it, so it tends to be a kid who is socially motivated. |
I don’t even think too many students could name who plays volleyball at their school. |
+1 It’s also a non-contact sport, and prissy girls are often the mean girls. |
Same poster. *STEREOTYPICAL non-contact sport. Sorry. |
What an ignorant comment. When you’re playing travel it’s very intense. Have you seen how the girls dive and run into each other? Never mind. I bet your kid does band/theater. |
I think the mean girls are in lacrosse. The mean moms included. |
