St Albans forfeits football game today- why?

^ This. I don’t have a kid at STA, and I’m amazed at all the supposed adults on here who don’t have a kid there but somehow believe they are entitled to information. It sounds like school admin are still trying to figure out what happened, which is the measured, mature response.

The last few posters seem transparently affiliated with sta. "I'm not affiliated with sta, but boy do I admire how they're handling it!"

If you're gonna do fake pr, be less obvious about it.

Not a STA parent but I am disgusted at the amount of posts just chomping at the thought of saying bad things about a bunch of kids. Have no idea what happened but pretty sure I was not perfect in hs and would be mortified if I had to deal with adults wishing me bad when I made a mistake.

If you have kids in HS who play sports in this area, I think it's normal to want to understand a hazing incident at another school if that's what this is, so you can better counsel and parent your kid. The kids are going to all hear about it eventually anyway. This is pretty common when you have kids in HS. Something "happens" at a neighboring school and you want to be able to talk to your kid about it.

Given how often STA boosters beat their chests on how superior they are to other area schools in every aspect of life, I do think several adults are just waiting for the story to un-fold.

Don’t hold your breath. Sounds like the season is back on and the Game is back on this Saturday. This is a very tight lipped community. You won’t find out.

If there is no criminal activity involved that is correct. If police press charges it will become public information

What if it's a minor?

Is this a real question? Yes even if the victim or perpetrator is a minor the incident will be revealed with names concealed.

Name of minor will be concealed but if perpetrator is 18 or older their name will be revealed.

Good for them not playing into the mob.

You're totally wrong. It's not about the kids. It's about the lack of adult supervision and too much investment in the sports culture.

Irresponsible how? A meeting was called, little details were given, police are involved. It’s irresponsible to try to keep bad behavior under wraps.

+1.

Were all parents involved in the meeting/ email or just football parents?

All parents. They were given ~2 hr lead time for the zoom.

Given that that is hundreds of people in the DC area I don’t see how this can - or should- remain a private matter.

Can someone summarize what they were told? Was it just that todays game is being forfeited with no explanation?

Unless you are in the community it is really none of your business.

Yet we have had dozens of threads about "scandals" at other DC schools most particuarly Sidwell, every time someone sneezes.

This is unique because unlike the JR event referenced earlier or other school incidents (fights, etc) this did not happen in public. It was off campus, after hours and only a few kids were involved. The majority of kids on the trip have no idea what happened, let alone the student body at-large. And the authorities asked the school not to say while they investigate further.

You can say a lot of negative things about STA but that last sentence is pretty false about the culture there. There are a ton of adults around and the academic pressure rule the culture, not sports, and most certainly not football.
