8 is the number

I ordered four large pizzas double cut for 11 kids and two adults. The kids were mostly 8 year olds - and pretty light eaters. It was 11:30am - a bit early for lunch. They only ate two of the four pizzas. I always order too much pizza.

So not yet lunch time, a much younger average age, and you needed 2 pizzas? That’s and argument that more than twice as many people won’t be OK with 4.

And twice as many adults. Why do people post useless anecdotes?

We have friends who aim to have no leftovers at the end of gatherings. They say they always order too much pizza, but that’s because when you have 4 slices left, 8 hungry adults and 16 kids - no one wants to take the last few slices. They just reconcile themselves to feeding themselves/their kids another meal when they get home. So, the friends note the “leftover” slices and order even less the next time.

It’s far preferable to have leftovers than have your guests leave hungry, please order more than the bare minimum.

When I worked at a pizza place in high school, here were our sizes and recommendations:

Small, 10 inches, 1-2 adults
Medium, 12 inches, 2-3 adults
Large, 14 inches, 3-4 adults
X-Large, 16 inches, 4-5 adults

So, yes, 4 large would be too few for 27 people. Depending on the ages of the kids, I'd get 7-8.

People from other countries always provide more than enough food for their guests, as well.

But good job, little buddy - you tried your best!

People from other countries like to provide lots of shitty party pizza nobody really wants to eat?

Not sure what “party pizza” is, but yeah, good hosts provide more than enough food for guests, instead of too little.

I guess you haven't been to too many venue parties in America. if you don't know what party pizza is. Seems like you just want to trash "Americans" and thought this was a good opportunity. But by the way, all cultures serve the crap pizza at venue parties. It doesn't better depending on whose serving it. If there are 11 pizzas at your party vs 6 at someone else's I'm not going to be blown away at how rich and gracious you are. It's not really that impressive.

You seem confused about which PP you’re responding to.

Not really. Either you're the one pretending to be dumb about pizza served at kid parties or you're the one who likes to claim only immigrants know how to host. You don't need "more than enough' you need enough. That's it. Wasting food for show is pathetic.

I don’t know if you have some sort of brain damage, or if you’re just trolling.

How to spot a good troll 101.

You just need to know the crowd. If your crowd is coming in their athleisure wear from the gym the adults aren't inhaling half a pizza. And their 5 year olds don't eat 4 pieces each.

Assume at least one full slice (not half-slice) per kid and 2 full slices per adult. (The women will probably eat one slice, and the men will eat 2-3 slices because they are oblivious to how much they consume.) I suggest you get at least 6-7 pizzas.

Not everyone lives in your rigid sexist world.

Seriously! Woman here and I can eat 3 regular slices of pizza, easily.

Op, what did you decide to order? Has the party happened yet?

Who freezes pizza leftovers?

We always do.

+1 weird comment. Think this isn’t uncommon.

I can’t imagine being cheap enough to freeze pizza. Either eat it while it’s fresh or toss it. What is this, the Great Depression?

I can’t imagine being wasteful enough to throw away perfectly good food. Also, yes, food prices have skyrocketed and a lot of people are struggling. So oblivious

I agree with this. I wouldn't double cut the slices for this age. Adults will want 2 full slices. Kids will eat 1 to 3.

I mean this is one pizza for 7 people then. Would you serve one pizza to 7 adults/teens? No.

Op here. We ended up ordering 6 and had three boxes uneaten. It surprised me!

Thank you to everyone who suggested the number to get too!
